What is the purpose of a HUD?

We're not shooting down MiGs with our Mazda, so what's the point? Just something else to jack up the price of the car? I don't get it.

Um, it's literally right there in the acronym. ;)

I get it... Not everyone appreciates all these modern safety features. I love HUD and the 360 camera!

When I first got the HUD, I felt the same as TheBlooms.
But after having it for just a month, I loved it and would definitely pay extra to get it on any future vehicles.
I felt the same about keyless entry - just another gimmick that can go wrong and cost me money. But after having it for a while, I love it.

Once you’re used to it, a HUD allows you to keep your eyes on the road instead of having to repeatedly look at the dash speedometer, etc. If you don’t use it as such, then it has no real value. But why would you not use it?

Because he can't shoot down MIGs

Have you ever had a HUD in any of the cars that you own? While none of my current vehicles have a HUD, my 1999 Grand Prix GTP had one and I really liked it.

As CarpeDiem stated above, that's what the HUD is for.

I don't understand the negativity either.
It was one of those features that before I had it, I was pretty meh about it.
Now that I have it, it's a must have on any future car I buy.

I can take it or leave it but it's pretty cool.

I mean you could say that about any gadget on modern cars these days. Why do I need TPMS on the tires? I can just check the air every couple of weeks or so. Or blind spot monitors. Just look at your mirrors before changing lanes. All of those things are added cost too.

Exactly. Check your tires. It takes 10 seconds per. And I always, *always* check my mirrors. Only a complete moron doesn't do these extremely basic things.

Get rid of that crap, make vehicles affordable again.

Of all the tech add-ons in the last 10 years probably the best was the rear-view camera.
Can you imagine driving a vehicle without one now?

Even more, I love the 360 camera on my CX-50. When I drive the wife's CX-5, I hate not having it! :D

I like the HUD very much and feel it is a safety feature. If you adjust the HUD correctly you don't need to look down at the speedometer while you're driving. The key word is to adjust.

two of my vehicles have it two don't. so yes I can imagine not having it. I like it but certainly don't need it.
