What is the 0-60 time for Mazda 6i manual stock?

Hi. I am interested in getting a manual 6i. The reason why I am asking about the acceleration times with the manual tranny is because I read somewhere that the 5 speed manual 4cyl is actually faster than the 5 speed auto 6cyl. I'd also like to enjoy the benefits of a better fuel economy.

This is what I got from car-stats.com:

2003 6i manual
0-60: 7.9
1/4 mile: 16.4
1/4 speed: 86mph - Obtained Feb.'03, Car and Driver

2003 6s auto
0-60: 8.1
1/4 mile: 16.3
1/4 speed: 87mph - Obtained Feb.'03, Road and Track

My car is going to be a 5-door hatch though. Do these sound about right?

Thanks.

Keep in mind the stats you have are based on a professional driver. I doubt if the average person could accelerate a 6i manual as fast as a 6s auto.

Also you should be aware that the 6s is being changed from a 5 speed to a 6 speed auto right about now. This will likely change the 0-60 performance.

yeah, the 4cyl 5 speed is no enzo, but I still like mine just the same

Thanks a lot for the replies guys. Yes, I understand that the drivers who reproduced those times are really good. I bet even with the automatic, he revved up the RPMs before dropping the gas pedal to the floor.

I decided to order the 2004 hatchback because of the 0% financing, and lack of changes (some I am not aware of?) for the 2005 manual model. I figure I can always drop the turbo in there when it becomes available if I need the extra power. Rowing your own box and better fuel economy, combined with a cheaper price made me choose the manual over auto. I figured the 2005 vs. 2004 wouldn't matter much for me since I put 50000kms/yr, so the car will not have a good resale value anyways.

I recently read that for every 1 mazda 6 sold, 8 honda accords and 8.5 toyota camrys are sold accordingly. This makes me wonder why this is happenings, since Mazda 6 is a much better looking car, not to mention more fun to drive.

Pssht...those car mag guys aren't drag racers, they're road racers. My point? I could drive that car way faster down the 1/4 then they could. My car was supposed to do the 1/4 in 16.8, and with only a muffler, I got a 16.3 on 185/60/14s. Any good drag racer can post better times than the magazines.

one more thing is the hatch is about 100lbs heavier than the sedan

Do you guys know of any changes for the 2005 year? I heard a 6 speed auto transmission for the 6 cyl, anything else?

no not stock and not in a straight line...guess I left out too much info.

With a driver that knows how to launch really good the 6i 5M will get the jump out of the whole on the 6s 5A, but the 6s will pull harder once it gets moving and will eventually pass the 6i. From a 60 mph roll the 6s will toast the 6i.

With the new 6 spd auto I will expect the 6s to be quite a bit faster in the 1/4, probably almost as fast as the 6s manual.

yeah AXT Pwning a manual stock....nobody saw that comming :)

agreed, usually with mag 1/4 mile time, you will see 2.4-2.5 60's which obviously is bad.
