I'm excited, I think I found a super-simple and super cheap solution to the "A/C doesn't work on fan speed <x> problem". Tonight I finished tracing the input circuit on the climate control board, it turns out Mazda did a really s*** job of designing it. If there's more than a 1.1V drop from the fan's resistor pack to ground then the A/C compressor doesn't get switched on. That roughly works out to a maximum allowable resistance of 0.125 Ohms for the wire that takes care of fan speed 3. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but the wire is so puny that any bit of corrosion on the switch/connector will easily bump the resistance of the connection to over 0.125 Ohms!
So the "fan running" detection voltage was poorly chosen (way too low), and the wiring is inadequate. My plan is to fix the former![]()
I always knew what the fix was, but just blamed it on poor connectors. Makes since that the wire is to small of a gauge to to carry the right current. My 2 has always flickered and it bothers me since 1 isn't enough and 3 is too much. I just haven't remembered to step out there and fool around with the connections. Forever ago I found a thread showing this solution with pictures. They had a labeled pin-out of the backside. Does anyone have this?
Thanks^ subscribed to both!
Did some more work today.. i must say, I'm really liken the whole shaved hatch idea, also fixed what was basically a hole in my bumper from an a**hole backing into it with a trailer.
the car looks great. Looks slick now. thats primered right? whats your cars color??
washed the engine bay, getting ready for a show this weekend
