What have you done to your P5 today?

I'm excited, I think I found a super-simple and super cheap solution to the "A/C doesn't work on fan speed <x> problem". Tonight I finished tracing the input circuit on the climate control board, it turns out Mazda did a really s*** job of designing it. If there's more than a 1.1V drop from the fan's resistor pack to ground then the A/C compressor doesn't get switched on. That roughly works out to a maximum allowable resistance of 0.125 Ohms for the wire that takes care of fan speed 3. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but the wire is so puny that any bit of corrosion on the switch/connector will easily bump the resistance of the connection to over 0.125 Ohms!

So the "fan running" detection voltage was poorly chosen (way too low), and the wiring is inadequate. My plan is to fix the former ;)

I always knew what the fix was, but just blamed it on poor connectors. Makes since that the wire is to small of a gauge to to carry the right current. My 2 has always flickered and it bothers me since 1 isn't enough and 3 is too much. I just haven't remembered to step out there and fool around with the connections. Forever ago I found a thread showing this solution with pictures. They had a labeled pin-out of the backside. Does anyone have this?

yeah mines act up all the time :/

today will change my oil. reset my ecu. and take off msp lip to get shipped to ^ that guy up there

I'm glad I decided to check everything with the ballast before contacting DDM. Turns out, it wasn't the ballast causing the problem. One of the female connectors on the wire coming from the car's headlight signal into the ballast was loose. I finagled a small knife in there enough tighten up the connections and BOOM... no more light shutting off. I also found out that the DDM slim ballasts fit nicely under the headlight assembly with some double-sided tape. Similar with the transformer, only it needed some adjustments. Not too bad of a day, I must say.

changed oil, did sea foam treatment
resetted ecu

codes up again so need to go get it rescanned

i dont wanna do my wheel bearing again! :(. think i just had a faulty one, drivers side didnt last too long. passenger is still holding up fine.

been in FL for the past week. saw a handful of P5s out there...everyone of them lowered with black stockers. Came back to NJ gassed up the P5 and registered for school.

Hey Reut1 What bearings did you buy? The first time around I went with the cheap stuff. Wasnt 3 months before I had to replace. I spent a bit more to go with the SKF. Its been running good since.

Thanks^ subscribed to both!

That solution doesn't really work in the long term, the contacts corrode and in a month or two and you're back to where you were.

I came up with a solution that works, and I have proof as to why it works. I've been working on this during my spare time this week, enjoy: http://nikosapi.org/wiki/index.php/Mazda_Protege_Fan_Detection_Circuit_Analysis

Did some more work today.. i must say, I'm really liken the whole shaved hatch idea, also fixed what was basically a hole in my bumper from an a**hole backing into it with a trailer.

the car looks great. Looks slick now. thats primered right? whats your cars color??

washed the engine bay, getting ready for a show this weekend

this is a p5 right? what turbo application do you have. I am looking into turbo'ing mine!

^thats a SuperCharger set up Bro=) Save up and pick the SpeedCircut turbo kit! Hope you doing good up there.

finished another job week.. gotta do my rear brakes + rotors tomorrow, and also head-unit
big weekend.
Oh, and also plastidipped my rims black :)
and ALSO ordered m2 performance headers. =]
