What have you done to your P5 today?

Let her sit in the rain while I worked on the GF's MZ3. New front-passenger tophat and bushing since the stock one was creaking like crazy after swapping in MS3 Pro-kit and MS3 shocks. Wiped down that 1 wheel while I was at it LOL

dont know what happened when we replaced the struts and lowered it yesterday but ive got a bad "rub" now all the time and its especially felt under braking. its almost like a bad wheel bearing but the bearings were replaced within the last year. any ideas what it could be?

Bearings can still fail in a short amount of time... especially if the axle nut was put on with an impact. Too much torque on that nut can crush the bearing and cause it to fail prematurely. Not saying that's what it is, but it's always a possibility.

^ ahh, I really hope its not my front wheel bearings that are bad, I hope its the rears. I just changed my fronts about 6 months ago. I am getting that wheel bearing sound again.

Started work on the column gauge pod, as well as looking for mounting points for my gauge panel. It will go behind the glove box as the A/C boxes were removed. Hopefully i can find somewhere on the fire wall.

Finally lowered. Megan Racing springs and Monroe Struts.
Took me about 3 hours. My endlinks were nasty and would not come off so I had to cut them. I am currently driving without a rear sway bar which makes the handling a little sloppy. Looking to upgrade my rear swaybar and get some adjustable endlinks. Feel free to steer me in the direction of some good products

it was put on with an impact so we will see whats up. the sound is different this time but during my lunch break today im going to lift up one of the front wheels, put it in first, and see if i get the sound going again. I so do not feel like doing the bearing again already. my friend with the press prob does not want to help again, haha. its just weird that it all happened 10 minutes after lowering the car

nice drop i like it

^maybe it is a rubbing issue. i kept hearing a similar sound but only when i hit bumps and it turned out a part of the wheel well was the issue.

^ def liking the drop. I need to attach my rear sway bar as well. only had a hack saw so we just split the endlinks in half and when I go back to my parents ill grab the angle grinder and finish getting the bolts out. there is one road by my work where the car is sooooo loud. haha. just one week of this

I cut the thread where it attaches to the swaybar. I left the endlinks on the strut tab so I have a free swaybar. My car is smoother since my struts were on the way out. I was afraid the the Megan's double compression ratio was going to kill my ride, but the struts compensate and I'm comfy. Can't wait for a sway bar so I can confidently bank some turns!

It could easily be something else... but I figured I'd throw that out there anyway. I ****** up a front bearing that way, so just talking out of experience. I can't remember the torque number but it's around 50 ftlbs IIRC. My BMW's wheel bearing retainer nut is torqued to 7 ft lbs...

50lbs for an axle nut? The workshop manual says 174-235lbs. I've taken my axles on/off with my impact and haven't had any trouble with bearings. (knock on wood). But I guess it could be, but I'll bet you're just rubbing somewhere.

Really? The book that I read specifically said not to use the impact because it can put too much pressure on the bearing. WTF.

Two questions:

1. Where is the best place to purchase a AWR swaybar and adjustable endlinks for my P5?

2. Has anyone attempted to put a Ford Laser SR spoiler on a P5. I would assume it would work since they are virtually the same car, however, the back end is a little more square and I'm not sure the dimensions of the spoiler. They look way more aggressive :D

Not sure what book you were reading, buddy... haha

That makes sense though.

But if they were only on there with 50lbs why would they be so impossible to break free? Other than the dent on the nut.

Rust. Our arch nemesis of the north. But I was really pulling that number out of my ass to be honest. I know that when I did my P5 front wheel bearings last, it wasn't maxing out the torque wrench and I rotated the hub while tightening.

Well, this kinda goes for everyone on forums, I don't think it's good practice to "pull numbers out of your ass". This forum is pretty good with specs, but if you don't know, then don't post numbers.

It's terrible on ProbeTalk with all the wrong information being passed around like the telephone game.

*disclaimer- I'm not personally attacking you, Phen. Just saying, in general for everyone. It's happened a few times on here, someone will post the wrong info and I double check for the OP with the workshop manual.

Back on topic; I swapped motors, suspension and just about every little piece from my friends smashed P5 to my old silver one this weekend. Just a few more aftermarket parts I need to take off and horde in the basement for my next P5. Both P5's should be gone tomorrow and I'll (we) will have some garage and driveway space again. Yay!
