What have you done to your P5 today?

3.5 years here. While she has her issues, I still enjoy driving her.

had mine 8 years :) well since new, not sure if thats 8 or 9, cant remember lol
but today i was snooping arond my engine bay, looking for the purge solenoid valve
found it, and one of the wires was a bit pulled out, so u could see the actual wire itself, it wasnt clipped completely in either
attempted to push the wire back in, worked, clipped it in correctly, hooked up my laptop and reloaded the superstock map, not sure what was loaded on my SSAFC but it wasnt the superstock lol
and i found another vac leak at one of my injectors, fixed that and now the car pulls 21.4 in/HG warming up which is good i suppose
hope i fixed some issues

thanks man. took me freaking 5 hrs....cause my portercable is jacked up and did all by hand *shoots head.

i got a new muffler installed because my last one(straight) was just too fu**ing LOUD as ****. Now its perfect. i love it.

Burnt the s*** outta my leg thanks to my muffler. Went around back (after driving 5 miles) to check something out with my subs, and got a little too close. I don't think I have moved that quick in a while.

if your talking to me, then i just took some to try to show what i was talking about

you can see a little bit of the insulation pulled back on the top wire, thats after i pushed the wire back in quite a bit

the actual solenoid

and a pic of my engine bay for kicks lol :)

got my alternator belt tightened AGAIN. second time in two weeks. they are new belts so im hoping they are just stretching.

just be glad you just had to tighten them. i put a new alt in wed. it was bad...had to take it out and put in another new one. ive done lots of tightening the last 2 days lol.

Thanks. Now I'm going to check mine too.

no problem,
after loading the superstock map and fixing that, the car doesnt seem to have the problem anymore, i guess i should also mention i disconnected the fuel pump and reconnected it...not sure if it did anything (prob not) just thought i'd say anyways

it was so bad, that whenever i drove to my GF's house, like 5 mins away, the car would stutter horribly as soon as i stopped and tried to take off again
just went and got her again, no stuttering at all

I just hope that problems gone for good

got my front rotors resurfaced and put on some hawk hps pads.

tomorrow morning ill put on new rear rotors and posi-quiet pads

the terminal for the positive on the battery is loose :( i think i need to pick up some shims when i get a chance to get a solid fit.

OK so I went and unplugged everything and cleaned up all the connections on the intake manifold side and the connections to the fuel pump. No dice.

I did take two videos.

First vid is just taking off and hitting that point where it goes lean

Second vid is going past the lean point and up to a higher RPM. notice how it hits the lean spot then works itself back to rich?

Today I drove the P5 to work bone stock, still feels weird.

And I also got my future Miata lined up, I'll be picking it up Tuesday if all goes according to plan.

hmm..dude i honestly have no idea whats wrong with your car, nothing really matches any of the symptoms in the service manual
does it drive rough or just leans out in that spot and then goes back to rich?

after driving my car more, i noticed a HUGE difference in inital starting, it used to start, then stutter, die, then i have to start it again, same thing, then start for the 3rd time and it would stay on
now first time i start it, it stays on, idles where it should, vac readings look good and everything

do me a favor though, make a boost leak tester, hook it up to your piping right where u hook it up to the SC, and then test for leaks
i had a ton of leaks around the injectors, even though my car read good vac, so this COULD be your problem not 100% sure though
also take your PCV out and shake it, if it makes a rattling noise its good

Thanks!

It's only like that under heavy throttle (under load only)
It idles fine and cruising is fine.

I'll try out the leak tester tomorrow. I have a brand new 626 PCV.

okay cool, a local guy is having lean idle issues with his MSP and we both couldnt figure out what it was, and he is a mechanic for a dealership lol so im just throwing ideas out there

when u use the boost leak tester, only use small amounts of air at a time, i fill my compressor to around 5 psi and then use that, do it about 4 or 5 times and use soapy water in areas where u think u hear air
really helped me eliminate alot of leaks from my car
