Sneaky White Paint
Wash/polish/sealed 'er.
Luckily, being white, it hides scratches and swirls, (even dirt, which to me seems counter intuitive) pretty well.
Well, the other day I washed 'er (using my new foamgun---theres no denying the fun, but it does indeed seem wasteful compared to ONR wash, or even a regular bucket wash).
Had garage access, and a weekend off, so I pulled her in and let sleep inside for once. She was nice and clean, I was happy.
Well, I had a wild hair, and thought to myself "maybe i'll just do a test pass with some mild polish, it's been 2 years since I polished er out" (was wearing Werkstatt AJT)
So, I taped it off a racing streak along the hood, Polished with blue pad + poorboys world ssr 2.0, one pass, wiped it down and. . . ..
Didn't seem that improved. So, I stepped up to a green pad with same polish. (thinking the slight swirl I saw under the light my buff out- it didn't, but i didn't try too hard). Anyhow, I wipe it all down, pull her out into the sunlight, Didnt seem all that improved...figured I'd just put down more protection and call it a day.
That's until, I pulled off the blue painters tape. As I peeled it off, it looked like it was leaving this residue behind...wtf? Only, the 'residue' matched the rest of the car! With the painters tape removed, I now had this gleaming white racing stripe down the hood!
So I taped off two more squares, smaller this time, to decide if I wanted Blue pad + SSR 2.0 or Green and SSR 2.0 on the rest of the car. I ended up doing the using the less aggressive pad/polish combo.
Bottom line: the car looked nice and white to me before polish. But after the polish, there was no comparison.
Tried to catch the effect in the photos. Two shots half and half of the hood, two shots of the afters, sealed with 2 coats of AJT.
I guess white paint does hide it's flaws pretty damn well.
