What have you done to your P5 today?

Damn those sand/rock chips. The front bumper takes such a beating. Those grills are a tough fit. I tried installing them.

well at like 1am today I went to the paint shop where the guy was still working on my hood (it's giving him a LOT of trouble to paint) so we slapped my stock hood back on and I drove her back home. It was nice to have her back :)

After work today I'll be going back there and *crosses fingers* hopefully it'll be finished.

Here's the story:
I bought the hood from Terbow, it's the fiber images full CF Evo-style hood. He had gotten it painted blazing yellow mica but the guy who painted it did a sorta crappy job so it chipped really quickly for him.

I dropped it off around 11:30AM Saturday and the paint guy said "yeah it shouldn't be an issue, I could have it done today". He needed a piece of my car to do the paint match with but I didn't feel like taking off my spoiler and wouldn't drive without my gas door so I just told him to keep the car for the day.

He called me around 5pm-ish to say that it was going well, they were buffing the sealer (the coat after the primer) or something like that. He also mentioned that my rear motor mount must be torn to hell -- yeah I knew lol (haven't had time to do anything about it, but I have RR Racing inserts that I'm going to try).

I got a call around 8:30-ish and he said that they were going to clear it soon and bake it and it should be done after that. Well, when they were clearing it around midnight they ran out of clear.. drove around in the morning (Sunday) and found a place that had some. When they were baking it the paint shrunk or something and yeah they had to strip it off.

When I went to get the car at 12:30AM today (Monday), he was working on painting another car while his assistant was upstairs trying to grind off the yellow paint. I guess the guy who painted it the last time used a SINGLE STAGE paint, no primer no clear. On top of that, in some places he sanded the hood right down to bare carbon fiber, tossing any hope that I could be ricey and have a little exposed carbon fiber right out the window. The guy had gotten almost all of the yellow off except behind the evo vent (closer to the windshield, in the middle) where I guess it was exceptionally thick or bonded really well or something. My paint guy said that he'd have to find some UV-reactive primer so that they could bond it under UV and have a chance of it actually adhering this time.

I really hope he gets it done by 05:30.

Wow, sounds like that hood is going to be worth it's weight in gold by the time their done with it. Hope it turns out good! And no more teasing - post pics when you get it on!! :)

Took a look at her sitting all shiny in the driveway this morning... it's been too long since she's been so clean. I need to go on chip duty so bad; that's only thing I hate about cleaning her up - all the chips and scratches stand out like a sore thumb, especially due to the light-coloured primer that was used.

Why can't car manufacturers have two colours of primer for their vehicles?? Light gray for the lighter colours, dark gray or black for the darker ones. Sure would help hide the chips and scratches better, *sigh*

Finally got my TWM shifter/knob/bushings from UPS (UPS sucks btw).

Will be installing tonight. woot.

I thought they used the gray primer for light colors and red primer for darker colors?

red?!?!?! thank god they didn't use that as a primer on my car! i'd see red (pardon the pun)...

on my car at least, it's the gray - which is so annoying because the chips stand out even more against the midnight mica blue, grrrr

Wish they'd used light primer on my sunlight silver. I've got the dark gray almost black s*** showing whenever I get a chip. That's why I use that ugly ass executioner mask looking bra on it most of the time, so it won't end up freckle-faced. Anyway, freshly washed with another dose of durashine to keep it spot free yesterday.

had the day off and went out to lunch with an old work pal....had a nice little trip in the protege.....:)

Well I will be going back and checking the torque on all of my IM bolts and nuts as well as trying to reset my ECU to increase my idle... A 300-500 RPM idle is just not right, boo vacuum leaks!

... leaving in my protege5 to go visit my hood in a few minutes. I may just be installing my rear motor mount inserts since the guy said he could just toss it up on a lift and see how easy it is to get at them.
