What have you done to your P5 today?

My car got flooded. It poured all night here in houston. I didn't think it would flood though. :(
Time to strip the interior out and change oil etc. **** houstons random ass weather!

Why do you need to change the oil, or were you driving when it happened? If it was just sitting there shouldn't be any way for water to contaminate the oil unless it was high enough to enter the engine in which case you have bigger problems.

So...we are still troubleshooting this motor...seems as if we have everything but a nice size oil leak hunted down...

Looks to be coming from the rear of the motor, driverside...we are thinking possibly the rear main seal...not sure where else oil would come from over there...

that def sounds like the rear main seal.....you are just having all kinda of fun with that car now aren't ya??

Just to be sure I guess. It got all the carpet wet and I was just guessing it made it into the exhaust too. What should I do...this is a first for me.

Well how high was the water level? The oil is in a sealed system in the engine so the only way for it to get contaminated is for water to physically enter the engine. If water entered your engine you have a lot of other problems as well. Just think about it, the only ways into or out of your engine are through the intake and exhaust (because all other filler locations are sealed or should be). If the water line is above the intake/exhaust ports on the head then I would consider a serious inspection/teardown.

No just enough to get the carpet wet. So up to the door line or so and possible the exhaust tips a littlew water may have gone in the exhaust but not enough to fill up the header I guess ha ha. I got up to the carpet wet and no water or high water at least. Just sucks.

don't worry with the oil. it'll be fine. from the sounds of it, didn't get too high..

unless it's just time for an oil change than eff it. and do it.. i highly doubt it got far into the exhaust, as it would have to go over the axle portion...

True....I got a lot of work to do when I leave here at 3:30. It should be fun tearing out all the interior. Ill try and take pics!

Yep...and that is what Justin (xelderx on here) is thinking as well...pretty sure that is the only thing it could be coming from that side...

The way he explained it was that the seal has a lip around the bottom to stop it from going in any further, and that the top will go in indefinitely...we pushed it in to far and now the oil is breaking through...it is being thrown around by the flywheel and dripping out through where the starter connects...

At least this time I know a lot more than I did, so teardown should be MUCH easier and I can have it much more ready when we pull the motor...

Teardown starts again tommorrow...
