What have you done to your MSP today?

finally pulled the codes from my car. nothing you guys haven't seen before.. p0171 system too lean and p0300 random/multiple misfire. the technicians at my work suggested a new MAF but I believe common practice for our car is normally coil packs right?

Yea I thought my MAF was dead before and had to buy 1 from the stealership. I was able to return it but they charged me a $60 return fee (bulls***). I'm gonna check the plugs since I have an extra set and go buy some coils. Do these just go bad randomly? I'm not sure what I did to cause it other than adjusting the tune but it hasn't been running lean at all, it has been overly rich since I am making very small adjustments to the fuel map. Should I get just the 2 packs or both the packs and wires?

yea, seems to be just randomly. And if you want you cant buy the 2 coils, and then test the resistance of both the wires to see if they are still good or not
there is a spec...but i cant seem to remember it, hopefully someone here can chime in

Is the lean code a normal issue that goes along with the misfire? One of the technicians at my work insists it is the MAF that is making it lean. I have some MAF cleaner that I bought not too long ago so I will try that out again.

Imho, misfires say spark issues; not MAF. I would def replace coilpacks, wires, and plugs. First off, its cheaper than a new MAF and besides, even if its not the problem its always a good thing to have done. If you end up needing to try a different MAF let me know. I went through the same thing... I pulled my MAF at 42,000 miles and replaced it with new. It ended up not being the problem but I left the new one in the car. I have the oem original one sitting around here somewhere and would sell it to you.

So I just remembered I can get OEM parts from rockauto.com (great website) but I'm having a little trouble finding the right stuff. It's under ignition, and I'm looking for both coil packs and 2 plug on boots so I can replace the whole set. I may buy some new plugs as well, but I already have an extra set of the stock heat range at my house.

NGK Part # 5659 {#ZE76}
2 required (wires for $27)

ORIGINAL ENGINE MANAGEMENT Part # 50087 {#FFY118100, FP8518100C} (Only 2 Remaining) (coils for $33 each)

Just search under the MP3 and it pulls up everything....

You could do the 1.8 swap and both coils run $80 with bracket. No performance but looks clean.

Awesome thank you. There were so many brands I didn't know what to pick lol. I have thought about the 1.8 swap before but like you said there is no proven performance so it's kinda pointless I really don't care about the looks of it.

Yea that's a good deal for the steedspeed. I think scratchandsniff still has his for sale which he's asking more for, but it includes all the gaskets so it's still a pretty decent deal.

its also brand new ;)

and i took my car to cars and coffee this am. and i tried on my future wheels ;)

Oh 1 more thing, does the NGK wires come with 2 or just 1? I am guessing 2 but it says 2 required? Do they mean 2 sets?

some ****** tore my passenger mirror appart last night...

well, at least a new one isnt gonna be expensive. $75 + HST.

just gonna have a time getting my paint to match since you cant get dupont chroma anymore.
