so i just did some damage control (pics to follow), water will certainly bust through aluminum if its contained and frozen. lol.
time for a new heat exchanger. doh.
it was one of those bad days where everything goes wrong. the car i usually drive to work (02 bug), battery died. and i didnt have another car to take cept the msp. mind u i work in south columbus, not a good area for a modified msp, or even a non modified one. and of course its been garaged so i didnt do any winterizing. of course it snowed that day so i was sliding everywhere. i also forgot my keys to open the store cause i dont ever drive the msp to work. yay. so we open 2 hrs late and i go to move my car and i hear this rediculous whining coming from the front end. im like WTF. so then it hits me i still have water in my liquid to air IC and it froze. not good.
i shut the pump (thats what was whining), but it sure did blow a giant hole in my heat exhanger. just glad it was that and not the ic. ic is 500.00
incase anyones wondering why i had water.. i use ice in the hot months, and when u add ice it raises the level of liquid and since its not economic to just dump coolant when i need to lower the level i was using water since water removes heat alot better than coolant alone, and i can just dump it out in the lawn. ill make sure i switch to coolant in october from now on since i wont be needing ice lol
live and learn.
