What have you done to your MSP today?

Replaced big ol chunky sub box with two tiny 10" subs with a much thinner/narrower one, also put in new thermostat due to my coolant res boiling out of control and finding coolant sprayed all over engine bay. Hopefully that fixrs that problem. Driving a balla status impala in the mean time lol

Alright now I'm a little scared. Just went for a drive and noticed a high pitched whining noise when accelerating from a stop. Is this the LSD taking a s***? I thought they go without warning.

For anybody that didn't see, yesterday I had a front motor mount and shifter bushings installed. Not sure if that is causing the noise.

Did the noise eventually go away?

I couldn't hear it while cruising. It sounds kinda like when you are going in reverse. Almost like I have straight cut gears lol.

edit: and no it did not go away.

tranny whine, keep an ear on it. If you start hearing it in other gears, besides 1st & reverse, then you're basically on a timer for BOOM.

it was in more than 1st...like atleast 1st through 3rd I would guess. I don't have the money for that s*** right now...god damnit.

Pro kit is hardly even noticeable... It's only .5" lower than your oem springs.

I got a bigger drop than that on the front, rear wasn't much but i did notice it.
Here are some pics with the eibach pro-kit

first on has the JDP lip also, i scrap alittle but not that often, DG lip shoulp be fine. last one you can compare to stock height. not the best pic but it's the only one i have next to another msp

is it kind of between a whistle/winning noise? like air or is it exactly like the reverse noise?.. because I had kinda a farting/whistling noise during acceleration when I had an exhaust mani leak, if you don't have lock washers and new bolts in there, change them.. didn't you try to have the steedspeed mani installed recently? if the shop did that, then the bolts might be a little loose, check that first, also place with the throttle when in park and see if you can hear where it is coming from, do you still have any kind of noise in neutral but gassing it? also when my turbo gasket went it was more of a whistling, it didn't affect anything like the boost or driving for a few weeks when it got worse, so for a while I just noticed the whistling, and then it got worse then I had some small boost leak symptoms and then took it into the shop and it was a bad turbo gasket.... play around with the throttle when in park and let us know if you hear anything, try tapping it hard so you go into boost and see if you can hear it louder (or with the engine there, I guess less but you get what I am trying to say..) try that and let us know

and ya I haven't had any experience with tranny noises so I can't speak for those, but all the whistling noises I have had have been gaskets for me.. so that is my experience and advise if it is that..

I had about 6 months of that whine (it got louder and more noticeable as time went on) b4 it finally blew up on the way to fantasy football draft last year.

Well I've always had a strange noise in reverse that does not sound right. I've had the car for about 1 and a half years now. Maybe something is loose from putting the shifter bushings in?

edit: speedaddiction: I used to have a manifold leak and it was a whistling sound but this is definitely more of a whining sound. I provided all new gaskets for the mani exchange but I will see if I can tighten the bolts and such. I'll go play with it in neutral as well.

ya well in reverse the whining sound is normal as far as I know.. anything above 2k rpm or something like that it whines pretty good, but as far as I know it's normal for stick cars from what I have heard... but ya lockwashers for the exhaust manifold mostly is a must IMO, makes things soo much easier and less likely to loosen/fallout

and one more thing lol, the turbo gasket leak was more of a whining noise but it was mainly only during acceleration.. not really a whistle, I was really freaked out about it because it was just after I got my first msp (RIP lol) and I didn't know what was going on, because it wasn't any "normal" sound that a gasket might make, here is the thread of me freaking out if you wanna look over it, not sure how much help it will be though, I didn't really know much back then.

It's normal in reverse, yes. 1st gear, maybe. Other gears, not so much...

I do have a slight whine, but it is from my differential replacement, not the trans itself. something about the ring and pinion gears not being properly worn together. I still wonder if my mechanic was BSing me... but its run for over 25K miles now problem free.

^^ ya I don't really hear it much in 1st gear anymore, I could maybe barely hear it before but with the exhaust I can't at all, or at least haven't noticed it, but ya reverse I remember my dad's old accord doing that, and even.. well any car in reverse when I am quickly backing back up the road or out of the driveway lol makes me wanna just whip it around like paul walker in F&F2 haha

i have done nothing, i have not had my msp since monday, shop had a hard time finding a replacement clutch, hope to have it back today, thank God i know the car as well as i did, i was told the clutch was a few miles from just being completely destroyed which would have done who knows how much more damage.

Well guys I think I figured it out. Like wagon said, I think it's a turbo gasket leak. I just looked at the bag of parts the shop handed back to me after the install and I see they didn't use the turbo outlet gasket that I provided (WTF?)...I got all the gaskets straight from the dealer so they have to fit. Also I noticed that one of my ARP studs in the manifold has been replaced and I think they use it as a turbo stud connecting the mani to the turbo. I'm ****** pissed and I will be getting some reimbursement for sure.

On a lighter note, I found a new shop that my family has done business with before and had excellent results so I will be giving them a call to get this sorted out.

what's this? lol did I miss a post haha (silly)(boom02)

but ya that's good to hear.. at least that you know what it is, like I said, after the minimal experience with mechanics that I have had, and now knowing what I do about cars, I don't really trust their work a lot of the time

I would very quickly take the car back to the shop where the work was done and demonstrate the noise for them. I would make them do the diagnostic for free by telling them that the noise never happened until they worked on the car yesterday.

I'm all for taking credit, but unless I said that a while ago, wasn't me.
