What have you done to your Miata today?

Ah bummer about the project snag. I was looking forward to the Mid-Ohio unveiling.

I've considered having BEGi rebuilt the turbo and upgrade the compressor wheel, at which time the WG would be ported. Don't want to go too crazy with the mods but I still want a bit more

This here is similar to my EGR setup, except that the screw on fitting is actually a screw in fitting. Really weird why they changed it up.

Ah so finding the right bolt size would plug that right up and you'd be good to go?

Already have a blockoff plate made. Bolt size is M22 x 1.5. I have an idea where to find one.

Like this?

I bet if you had an extra oil pan drain plug it would work. Even has the flange for a copper crush washer.

Bingo. Or... 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 Turbo diesel... Same plug. $6 at Auto Zone, in stock.

*thumbs up*

Good luck!

FWIW: BelMetric has been reliable 2-day shipping via ground for me, and they have all the nice automotive style fasteners that your average hardware store (or McMaster) doesn't have.

Ok. The MSM MAY make it to Mid-Ohio. We'll see...

Well that's good, because it's looking like mine won't. Too much to do in too little time.

Put the rest of the exhaust in only to find the MSM midpipe "just" misses connecting to the muffler. Looks like I'll have to source a MSM specific muffler, so that's on the back burner for now. Put the stock midpipe back in, put in the downpipe and figured out where I could put the wideband O2 sensor, dropped that off at a muffler place to have the bung welded on. Also dropped the supercharger bracket and intercooler outlet pipe off at a welder to have them fixed up. The exhaust pipe is done, haven't heard about the other parts yet but hoping to get them tomorrow. Changed the oil filter (easiest one yet!), put the lower intake manifold back on and installed the new 550cc injectors. Found out that it was better to put the spacers into the fuel rail before putting the rail on (they were very tight, I lubed the O-rings with a little lithium grease and gently worked them on). I had some problems with the little plastic spacers for the fuel rail hold down bolts falling off so I put a couple of dabs of blue gasket silicone on them to hold them in place.

Cleaned up the fan motor blades, used Q-tips as I didn't have anything else that would get into the spaces between the blades. The foam that provides the seal between the fan housing and the outside air was gone, so I cleaned it off and put on some new foam weatherstripping I got from Ace. As I was moving around I noticed a lot of ringing around the transmission tunnel, so I broke out the Raammat I have and put some of that on the tranny tunnel and below both seats. Put in my newer carpet, the main piece and the vertical piece behind the seats. I'll have to wait to get the package shelf piece cut for the roll bar, probably going to get that done professionally so it doesn't look as ratty as what is in there now. Got the dash back in place, scuffed up the e-brake handle some during the attempt. I was able to get the dash out ok with it in place, but really I should have removed it from the start to make everything easier. Ended up doing that so I didn't ruin the wood further. Pulled the radiator out of the car. Finally, put the exhaust mani back in. That's pretty much it for today, I need to get some info from the guy I bought the 'charger from as I can't figure out how the intercooler is supposed to fit on the car.

I have the stock MSM exhaust if you need any bit of it. Just shoot me a message or something. It won't be hard to throw into my trunk, or someone else's car.

Well... mine lives. I finished it last night around 10:00. Took it for a quick ride. No leaks, everything operates properly. Now comes the fine tuning, and figuring out why my damn hood doesn't line up quite right.

Oh yea... and eventually, I'll actually tell you guys what I did...

Spent this morning running around collecting bits and pieces. Wideband O2 bung is now on the exhaust pipe, IAT bung on the intercooler outlet pipe, and the standoffs on the supercharger bracket. Had to source a female-male reducer in order to connect up the fuel lines, all I could find was brass so that's going in for now and I'll see what I can find online. It's easily accessible to change once I get a stainless one. I looked at putting the intercooler in last night, but can't figure out the bracketry so I sent a message to the guy I bought it from in the hopes he still has the pictures he took when he removed it. Got a response back, and the intercooler is now in! Turns out I was looking at the bracket completely wrong, because it was shaped like the bottom of the 'cooler I thought the 'cooler rested on it. Turns out the bracket mounts on the back side of the bumper (using the bolts that normally hold on the power steering cooler) and the 'cooler mounts to two ears that hang down. Now I just need for him to send me pictures of how the relocation brackets for the lower radiator brackets go. I had to make another run to Ace for some more fasteners, got some longer bolts to hold the overlay pulley on but failed to notice that the holes in the pulley aren't big enough for the shoulders on the bolts. Times like this I wish I had a lathe, instead I'll have to try and find some threaded all the way up. Got the fuel system completely connected up. Alternator is installed, took me a little bit to figure out where the bracket for the wires was mounted to the lower intake manifold. EGR valve and pipe are back in, and the COPs in place and wired up. Both sets (for cylinders 1/4 and 2/3) share the power and ground wires. I cut off the stock connector plugs, then twisted those two sets of wires together and soldered them. After that they were put into the butt splices and crimped, followed by the individual wires for each cylinder set. Nice and neat. Made a gasket for the big throttle body and got that installed on the supercharger. Finally (for now), hung the 'charger in place to see how it was going to look. I'm waiting for a power steering tensioner from The Parts Group, as I need to restore that to stock and I don't have all the parts needed due to how the M45 was installed. Upper intake manifold is back in place, along with the dummy throttle body. Took some time getting all the wire harness plugs connected, I couldn't find the one for the CAS initially. I also had to properly use the bracket for the plugs on the front of the engine, for some reason it wasn't done right from the M45 install (I don't think it was due to any interference issues). All of that took some time, I mainly wanted to ensure the CAS wires won't snag on anything. Did a few other odds and ends, the passenger side of the engine bay is all done. Now just have to wait for the power steering tensioner to arrive so I can finish up with the supercharger itself.

Didn't post it here, but I did get the supercharger in last Thursday after receiving the power steering tensioner. Only to find out the autotensioner interfered with the power steering tensioner! After writing TDR to see if their tensioner would work with what I had, owner Gary wrote me back (and he's on vacation!) to tell me to just remove the PS tensioner threaded piece and tension that belt the old fashioned way. Right in front of me and I didn't even consider it. Did some research last night (once I woke up from my evening nap, I was exhausted when we got home from Mid-Ohio) and found a little more info for putting the intercooler in. Looked at things today and I think I about have the brackets figured out. I had to put two small studs back in place using JB Weld so I have to wait until it's dry before trying out my theory. Started putting the gauges in, got the vacuum line for the boost gauge run into the cabin (via an exist hole for a previous installation) and the big line for the wideband. Put that one through the large gray wiring plug on the driver's side, I'll use some silicone to seal up the slit around the cable. If I were smarter I would have done this before I put the dash back in, would have been a lot easier. Now I have to get some of the correct size wire to make extensions in order to wire them up to power and lighting, Ace didn't have what I needed so I'll hit up Harbor Freight tomorrow as I also want to get a heat gun for use in the garage (the wife's hairdryer doesn't really cut it).

Don't you hate when you get so reliant on instructions for things that other people have done that you just don't think about the easy, old school stuff? Same thing happened to me with the MSM turbo install. I couldn't get to the oil drain line on the oil pan because the A/C compressor was in the way. I called FM to ask if they had any suggestions. First thing out of Kieth's mouth was "Well, how about moving the A/C compressor out of the way?" I promptly replied "Oh wow... I'm a dumbass and can't believe I just wasted your time." It wasn't in the instructions so I didn't do it. After that little incident, I didn't hesitate to move or remove things that weren't in the instructions.
