What grade of Oil to use

Rotus8 did you even read that link? It states that 5w-20 makes engine wear more prone to 5w-30... thats why I posted this....

and I quote:

SAE 5W-20 Motor Oil is GREAT – It yields better EPA numbers than SAE 5W-30 oil = better CAFE = lower Federal Fines for not meeting minimal CAFE standards. It typically to the manufacturer saves about $15.00 per vehicle in Federal CAFE Fines.

SAE 5W-20 Motor Oil increases oil consumption – More oil gets used, just great for oil companies everywhere.

SAE 5W-20 Motor Oil increases mechanical wear, reduces engine life – that way you will buy new car sooner = more sales for car manufacturer.

Everybody wins, but the vehicle owner, who has to pay more per mile driven in the long run.

So the choice again comes to either use the SAE 5W-20 oil and DO NOT OWN THE CAR – lease it or rent it.

who gives a s***... 5W30 works fine on our cars anyway, turbo or not... that's what's recommended overseas where no one gives two s**** about the EPA... and they're the same engines!

Well I am wondering if anyone else uses it on their non turbo 3's and to state any differences they have with mpg and performance.

I'm using german castrol syntec 0W30 in mine along with the spin-on oil filter conversion... works just fine.... no real mpg difference

why it won't be? 0 weight works better in the cold than 5 or 10 ever would!

0W30 is more all weather than 5W30 ever could dream to be
plus once the motor is warmed up, it makes no difference whether you have 0W30, 5W30, or 10W30 in it... it's all the same viscosity in the end

I know the book says 5w30 but the MS3 is a turbo car, shouldn't it help us to run something a little thicker, say 10w40? It might hurt mileage a little but wouldn't it protect better when hot??

no, it is completely unnecessary as long as you're running synthetic oil

the ms3 has an oil cooler and will keep temperatures regulated anyway

These people appear semi-literate at best and you want to rely on them for your choice of oil? If their website is that sloppy, I imagine their thinking is just as sloppy.

I put 90-weight in my motor. If it is good enough more my transmission, it must be fine for the motor. I heard on the internet that this was great and will make your engine last for 300,000!

HaHa....I know your j/k

I wonder if it is true that w20 will wear a engine faster then a w30 or w40.I dont know anything about that stuff.

I found this:

5w20 oil has less film and shear strength than a 5w30, 10w30 or a 0w30 motor oil. This can lead to increased engine wear under today's demanding heat and high-stress engine performance conditions

How easy was the install for the spin on? What filter would you look up at your local discount auto parts now that u cant look up the speed3? Thanks
