****What gauge set up????*****

:

hey everyone got an ms3 and what to know which gauges i need? gauges such as boost gauge and all that good stuff. i would like to know what are the most important things to monitor. This is basically what i want to do to the car ::: sri, hks bov, hks catback exhaust, down pipe, exhaust manifold, wot box. i was wondering i seen the dsms with maf translators is there anything along the lines of that for these cars?

You will want a boost gauge for sure.

Other than that, you can get a DashHawk to monitor just about everything else.

www.dashhawk.com - Our car is supported even thought it's not on the list. We even have our own PIDs. It's a great device.

Most important are Boost, AFR, KR. The DashHawk will monitor these and many more.

There are a couple more devices that monitor PIDs but the names slip my mind atm. I'm sure others can chime in with the names/products.

The Cobb AP also does the important gauges as well.

I would say boost, EGT and either oil pressure or temp if you want to go with a 3 gauge setup, otherwise get an accessport and you monitor almost everything you need to with one unit. The dashhawk is a better monitoring device than the accessport but doesnt function as a tuning device.

With the DSM's they used a MAF translator in conjunction with a GM MAF. The combo was used when running a FMIC in a blow throw configuration. That way you could have a full VTA blowoff valve that didnt affect the AFR. Also it allowed you to run a huge turbo with no restrictions on intake, just a straight filter or nothing at all. No need for that with the MS3 unless of course your planning on building a drag car out of it (glare)

i would say none of them if you don't know what any of the data means in the first place.

Honesty, that is true to an extent. Really the only reason to have gauges/dataloggers, aside from the cool factor is to monitor engine parameters after you have altered the factory setup, ie MBC, intake, exhaust, etc. The gauges are there so you know whats going on with the car. However if you really dont know what gauges you need based on the mod list you are planning then maybe you should research more about the mods so you know what changes they actually make besides making you go faster or sound cooler.

umm guys i know what each means and how to read em i just wanted to know WHICH R THE MOST IMPORTANT ONES like which is ur set up

Eventually my gauge setup will be as follows:
-Boost, mounted on the left side top of the steering column.
-Oil Press, mounted on the right side top of the steering column.
-Oil Temp, Water Temp mounted on the dash in front of the cowl over the stock gauges, one to each side of the cowl.
-AFR, probably down where the "Passenger Airbag Off" light is.

Of couse you know how to read gauges, if you didnt you wouldnt know what to make of those circular gauges in front of your steering wheel.

When you ask, "what gauges should I get?", your telling us that you dont know what aspects of an engine should be monitored once you stray from the factory configuration. I dont think anyone doubted that you can read a gauge, its why the question was asked in the first place that becomes the grounds for these statements.

It's almost as if you are reading my mind (uhm)

yes and no. i got a dh and used it for monitoring boost/vac, afr and kr. now that i understand more about the engine, i'm monitoring, boost/vac kr, fuel pressure, afr, ltft, stft, iat, ect, aat, and bat.
if you're getting cut, then you can monitor maf voltage and all that. i just really with the ******* dh monitored oil pressure. which brings me to.......

This is true. I personally run Boost and Oil Pressure Gauge on the A-Pillar and a Dashhawk for everything else.

what's the deal with the oil pressure gauge. what did you have to do in order to install it, you can pm me if you'd like so we don't threadjack.

to the op - i'm with everyone else, the dashhawk or the dashdaq is a great monitoring tool and leaves very little room for gauges. i'm personally not a fan of gauges all over the place. i think it looks tacky. boost gauge though is a good thing to have

boost gauge/dashhawk...works for me.
