What do you think of this deal?

This is from a dealers email to me:

I have found a single Black one in the area. It has all the equipment you have mentioned (manual trans, ABS, moonroof and 6cd changer, leather) but also has an alarm system.

MSRP on that vehicle is $19,155. I do sell these cars for below invoice amount to my internet customers. Your price will be $16,994 + tax, tags. This price includes all incentives.

Not bad, but he says "includes all incentives" - what are those incentives and do you qualify for them?

he has power over you because you gave him specs for a specific car you want. Most delaers sell below msrp anyway, so don't listen to that line.

i bet you could bring it down to 16,000-16,500 out the door. Try calling a bunch of dealerships and have them battle it out for a lower price. There probably aren't a lot of mazda dealers in your area though....

i think by incentives he means all the accessories.

and finally, the porsche 914 is a beautiful car =D

The 914 is the ugliest of all Porsches, what are you talking about? Its a little go kart.

Maybe, but that little bastard of a car has a center of gravity that is 6 inches below the pavement...like a race kart...and even a 4 cycle powered kart is a challenge to drive...lotsa fun.

I think 17K is an excellent price for that car, if it's the one you want.

Still offering the 0%?? I'd say go for it - You're not likely to get it much lower anywhere, no matter how much you haggle.

I'd LOVE to have a 914 2.0 - The VW powered ones never interested me too much. Till then, I've got a nice Miata to play with ;)

lol, i'm just a huge fan of the vintage style of that car. I'm a huge fan of old-school

difference of opinions....before i got the mp5 i actually wanted a datusn 280zx

Thanks for the input.

The 914 belonged to my Dad originally. He bought it new back in '74 (I was 13 at the time), and drove it daily. Over the years he let it go into disrepair. About 10 years ago I began to restore it from top to bottom and it's back in excellent condition. Spent a lot of time, did most of the resto myself, jobbed out the interior and paint to guys who really knew their business. I really don't drive it much. I have to admit, my preference is American V8 muscle (I already miss my Z28), but the 914 has a lot of sentimental value so I'll never sell it.

Id say that's a good deal considering I got mine with the same options and paid over $18k plus the difference on my trade in. Then again, i hate negotiating and was more concerned about my monthly payments. So I focused on that instead. Of course I don't know what the price differences are from west to east coast dealers. I don't imagine they would or should be much different.

I'm stoked to see some people giving the 914 props! My first car was a '75 914 2.0. I bought it for 3500 bucks and except for a few notorious 914 bugs like a rusty battery tray, etc., it looked and ran like new. A 914 2.0 actually has a VW motor in it. It's the same engine that's in the old VW Bus, the "pancake"2100. I had Dual Weber carbs and my 914 was pushing 150hp.
You were probably thinking about my all time favorite car...a 914-6. Basically a 911 on a 914 floorpan. 2.7 litre flat six, 911S wheels/brakes, 911S gearing...all in a mid-engined "go-kart". :)Those cars could run circles around 911s, and for a lot cheaper. Did I mention that I love 914s?

Just curious,
have you played "Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed"?

by far my all time favorite racing game. They selected a handfull of classic and current Porsches which you get to purchase and mod throughout the game. The courses are unbelievable. One of them is close to a rally course through the woods and you really have to know the turns to keep up with the computer.
