What do you dislike most about your Speed 3?

SLOPPY SHIFTER. My God is this thing clumsy. Coming from a Honda, this car's shifter is like pushing a knife through peanut butter.

Stiffer shift bushings with better gates would make this car perfect.

depends what honda. the new cable actuated s***, like the new si, sucks just as bad, actually, it's worse because the third gear hardware is flawed.

the shifting equipment on the ms3 is easily upgraded to suit with a few choice bits.

J-Rod, your list is pretty spot-on. the light in the hatch was a curious choice on their part; how hard would it have been to make that automatic, lol.

the talk about mileage has to stay outta performance forums. it's just not practical to compare performance cars based on mileage. trust me, to get the mileage we all are getting with this much power out of a 2.3 under boost is incredible.

i average 26 city..its pretty nice...(cool)
This is hard for me to believe since I get 26 hwy. How did you break in your engine?
No sun roof/moon roof option, no sunglasses holder, the fact that they left the Japanese center console and didn't modify it for America (e-brake and small indent are on the passenger's side), no rear hatch release from inside the vehicle (like the gas door), the fact that the hatch light has to be turned off rather than it turning off when you close the hatch, no heated side mirrors, no one touch up/down window switches, no switch-blade key, no boost gauge, and that 60mph is where 35mph is on most speedometers (ticket waiting to happen fopr me). Other than that, I pretty much love it, and for around $25K, who am I to complain?

I can't relate to anything on your list as a problem. Do any cars really have a hatch release? I haven't even heard of it.

The biggest thing lately that bugs me is how in the winter the a/c comes on even when you push the button to supposedly dissable it.

makes me want to bang my head against a wall and go into roid rage. Maybe this is why I am getting poor gas mileage because my A/C won't turn off.

I wondered about why it does that too?

I think its either a Japanese thing or lazy programming... I wouldnt mind if it came on when you hit auto if you were able to turn it off by hitting the A/C button but it doesnt give you a choice: if you want auto the a/c will be on... lame that so many cars force this... my other beast lets me leave it in auto with a/c off....

I'm a young mechanical engineer specializing in HVAC system design. The car turns on the a/c when you hit auto to decrease the humidity in the car to avoid fogging. The system isn't sophisticated enough to determine when fogging will occur so it just runs the compressor all the time. They don't want customers complaining of condensation when they have an automatic system that should take care of everything for them. As for having the option to turn off the a/c while still be in auto for those times fogging isn't an issue, I don't know why they didn't do it (if they didn't do it I don't know. I don't have an MS3, YET, I'm judging from this thread). I guess they had to draw the line somewhere with how much control they would give their customers over the HVAC and still call it "auto". They just chose "none".

ms3buckeye, you are correct. also, it has to be out there that just because the ac light is on, and the switch is engaged, the ecu has every means of disengaging/engaging the clutch for the compressor at a certain throttle angles...so full throttle performance is probably not hampered.

though i guess i do see a point for normal cruising circumstances, it could affect gas mileage....

I always just hit auto and then press the A/C button. The auto light turns off, but it still functions automatically. Just set the temp and the fan speed and output location adjust automatically.

I basically only let Auto adjust the temperature, I control the AC, fan speed, and output location. If I get fogging I hit Auto and let it do it's thing for a while.

So it basically acts as a humidifying option.

Does anyone actually know if the A/C compressor actually turns on and off by itself (with the switch off) like builthatch said?

Easy way to test that is to go WOT for a few seconds and see if the air coming from the vents suddenly gets warmer.

If that is what it does then the engineer that came up with that scheme was lame... if it in fact will still function automatically the auto should stay on... at least then I have a visual clue as to what mode is in:
Full auto: both auto and a/c lights on
Auto w/o AC: auto light on , a/c light off
Manual: auto light off

and yes in the big scheme of things its still a minor issue I know I know....

Agreed. It makes no sense to me. Your suggestion is much better. From what I've found even when the Auto light is off, it still adjusts things on its own until you manually adjust the fan speed. Then it seems you are truly in manual mode.

My '07 has a sunglasses holder - it's that indentation on the right side of the center console. At least that's what I use it for...

I can't understand why one would need an inside release for the rear hatch... my 2nd gen RX-7 needed one, otherwise you'd need to use the key, but what's the problem with opening the hatch from the rear?

I agree with you. If you need to go back there anyways, what is the problem with opening the hatch manually?

page 13 ftw.

young roids-

i think every honda i've had has an internal latch release, and i use/used it often. they also didn't/don't have an opening handle on the outside, but you could use the key to pop it and on the later si, the remote.

the fact that the rear space light doesn't come on when the hatch opens is silly, since that would be so easy to incorporate.

i also am unsure why they didn't incorporate an auto-leveling feature for the HID lights instead of the silly adjustment switch. in japan (and europe), i believe most if not all modern HID equipped vehicles have auto leveling. the hardest part is already done (the motors to actuate the level), so i dunno why they didn't make it automatic. i can't see it adding that much to the cost vs. having the motors already there doing essentially nothing.

heated seats and sunroof, i think i've already mentioned i wish i wish!!!

BTW, j-rod, doesn't your d-side window auto down? i believe mine does. i am unsure if auto up is feasible considering the risk of something getting caught in there, such as a child's head lol
