What do I need???

What do I need for my sound setup. I don't want to get scammed into buying all this useless s***. Currently I have a JL W7 and Crossfire Vr 1000D amp. What do I need to run this setup in my car. I know I'll need a player, but what about wires (what kind? gauge?), a capacitor (what kind?), and anything else I will need. Please help. Thanks.

You won't *need* a capacitor. There are people on here running higher wattage than you that don't have one (Got Wake? and Poseur). Technically, you won't need an aftermarket HU unless you want to get on...and decide that based on the features that it offers you. If you must have MP3 ability and good SQ with good power output from a HU, then I recommend the higher end Alpines. Or...if you plan on getting another amp and components down the road, you won't need a powerful headunit.

Ok...this is starting to lose focus, so let me just make my suggestions in bullet form.

-HU: Something with 3 pre-outs for future upgradability (if you want)...

-Front Sound Stage: Component speakers in your price range that you like the sound of, powered by a good 2-channel amp (you can consider this on down the road, but I highly recommend it with the amp and sub that you have)

-Rear Fill stage: either disconnect rear speakers and don't worry about them, or just power a set of your choice of speakers off the rear channel of the HU.

-Power wiring: look into KNUKonceptz.com. They have great prices. For the amount of power that you're dropping, I'd suggest 0/1 ga. That'll give you the ability to upgrade and add an amp for components later on. You'll need fuses and things as well, but you'll have to figure out what's needed by what you install. For a good idea of what you need for wiring, look at the amp install kits that KNU offers.

I think that's everything important...

don't forget the enclosure;) otherwise very good recomendations(yippy)

but i'm guessing you left the enclusre out because you though he had one. which brings us to the question, P54DRIDE, do you have a subwoofer enclosure yet?

also you might want to invest in some sound dampening material. while most rattles can be fixed with weather stripping, some just need dynamat, or an alternative. let's not forget about a battery. if you still have your stock battery, it's a POS, so start saving up for a new one.

oh, yea bigpower=battery death. Mine's down to barely useable after 7months of 1.6kw... Redtop is now inplace *phew*

Actually...I complete forgot! ha! Thanks, Wakey!

ME:
Comps - 300$
Comp Amp - 170$
Sub Amp - 250$
Sub - 130$
Wiring - 75$ (I was too picky!)
Box - 50$

Pretty much around a grand...but I already had the Headunit since I have an MSP. And none of this stuff is cheap-o brand, either. The comps are CDTs, the amps Eclipse and JL, and the sub is eD.

Yes I do have a box already. How much did you guys pay for your setup?

lol, which one?(uhm)

what's in my car now:

JVC KD-SH9750 $300
phoenix gold line driver $50
phoenix gold 30 band EQ $200
audio control 4XS $100
autotek 4 channel amp $200
alping type R components $150
us acoustic amps (2 of them) $100
7" mid-bass drivers $30
phoenix gold bass cube $75
power acoustic A3000DB $325
treo CSX 18" $250
wiring $200
box $40

tools required to build box and install everything else $600 (probably on the low side)

money saved by doing the work myself $thousands:D

My box is a factory spec. box for the sub. The setup that I got quoted comes out to roughly $1695, but it'll cost about $2000 because I'm going on a monthly payment plan and the interest is crazy high.
