What did your dad do first ride/drive???

I dont even want to think about that day...

Me and my dad have had lots of fun driving together. For my 18th b-day, we went to Bob Bodurant 2 day driving course and got to flog 2 corvettes around the track w/ instructors. When I passed the driving class, I got the MS3. The bad news was they paid for the class, but not the MS3. haha.

two days after I got the speed, I asked my dad if he wanted to drive it. Trying to be non-shelont (sp) about the whole situation, he gets in and gets going. He talked about his older GTO's and how he never drove a stick w/ any more then 4 speeds. I told him to no go out of 4th then. And when we got onto 95, he held the gas to the floor and rode 4 ALL the way out. It was something I wouldnt expect out of Mr. Insurance.

hahaha, this is great. 4th gear is almost magical though...so it's ok if he didn't take it out of 4th. hahaha

My mom thinks it's cute but I scare her because I drive too fast. Tried to take my grandpa for a ride, but he said he didn't need a heart attack today.

when i bought mine a few months ago the dealership told me before i came they didn't do test drives well i brought my dad down there cuz he was buying the car and the salesman was asking me what i think and i told him i had already driven one and my dad would be the judge..lol he let me dad take it out for a test drive lol...my dad didn't drive it long but he was like it's ridiculously fast and its probably the fastest car i've ever drove and he told me he was worried about how fast it was haha

while kicking it at home this weekend (still waiting to return to New Orleans) my dad and i needed to run a few errands. I let him drive.....and he actually behaved himself i was surprised!

Well until I have a mom/dad driving story, I'll briefly share about the first time I took my parents for a spin in the car.

Dad was in the passenger seat and mom was in the back, seated behind him. They live a rural area and we took the little beast out to some winding roads in the middle of nowhere and I opened it up for them. As I accelerated and dad gradually got pushed back into the seat, all he could mutter was "Wow". He then proceed to grab whatever oh-s*** handles he could locate.

My mom on the other hand was pretty funny. While in the back seat thumbing through my recent wedding's album, she said hardly anything. Calm as a cucumber. She would glance up every now and then to ask a question about the album, but that's about it.

On a side note, both of my folks autocrossed their Datsun 240Z during the mid seventies.

My dad races motorcycles to this day. He owns 2 1980 TZ750's in immaculate condition. Thats a two stroke 750cc motorcycle. They are factory yamaha race bikes from the 1980's. Beastly things! In Scotland he also has a R33 GT-s Skyline. Not a GTR, but i have driven it. Its still 260hp, and quick because its got no AWD weight. I myself race a 125cc shifter kart so I know a litlte bit about going fast. I was raised at the racetrack.

So I took my dad for the first ride in the MS3...took it easy let her get nice and warmed up. Short shifted to second gave it a half throttle burst...then into third and full whack from 3500 RPM...hahah before i could even get to 5500 dad goes. "Well thats just a good way to get arrested in this town..."

I said "If I can't show my speedfreak dad what my new car can do who can I show?"

He just chuckled....

I wrote a similar post in the taking people for rides section...

Fun thread, so here we go:

In my home country it has been more common to have 4cyl "ricers" with MT since the early so my sis and me were always lucky my dad would "test-drive" them before buying us a car. It was his money after all.

There was only one thing he never gave a crap on 4cyl cars: RPMs, I swear there were some times where the test car would yell "shift gear please", if it had an RPM gauge it would be already in purple, not red. You had to see the seller's face (shocked), especially when going on a steep hill, which was my dad's favorite test.

His latest ride is a Turbocharged 2.4L Chrysler Sebring (AT), yeah, it is a not a ricer per-se but he got tired of MT. He has owned tons of cars, from 1975-1977 Mavericks to 1995 Suburbans and even a couple of VWs, a Nissan Sentra Hatchback turbo and 2 Ford Tempos :D

Whatever it is, I bet no 4cyl MT car misses him, and he's impressed how far the 4cyl cars have come

My dad's 1st car was a hemi challenger...he wanted a vette and took my grandmother for a test drive...which was a mistake because she didn't let him buy it. he didn't take her for a drive in the challenger...just bought it without asking. ( he paid cash ).... I don't know what mods he and his buddies had done to it but he told me that it had so much tq that it would tweak the body and broke the a pillar on the drivers side. needles to say he wrecked the car after about a year of ownership
