What did you pay?

I went and looked at a black MS3 today. Nice but not my choice of color. The dealer has a red one due in next month and it has the Grand Touring package on it.
Since I will not be trading in another vehicle I was wondering if any of you had luck negotiating the price downwards on these?
I am hoping to get it for 24k out the door.
Thoughts?

The dealership I got my 3 from is the easiest dealership I have ever worked with, which is part of the reason I decided to get a Mazda. I got an incredible deal on my 3 and recommended a friend go there to get his new car. (They give ya $50 for sending someone else there!). Anyway he went for the Speed3 and got a GT version for 21.5k (and they had to go to Delaware to pick it up for him cause they didn't have the color he wanted on the lot). The person who recommended this dealer to me got his GT RX-8 for 28k. They deal in high volume so they are able to give great deals.

Even after purchase they're still great. It's actually a bit far for me to go to get service with them, but they are so incredibly reasonable there I go!

Also keep in mind that its May now, so I'm sure dealers are already thinking about clearing as much stock as they can for upcoming 2008 models. I've also found going ready to buy at the end of a month helps a great deal to. They have quotas to meet and if they are desperate to meet em they will give you some nice deals.

This dealership is in the Philadelphia, PA area.

Since I will be trading my 3s for a Speed3, I will get a decent trade allowance because it's Mazda to Mazda. (1000 over KBB last time I was there looking at a Speed6).

I want a loaded GT (MSRP just over 26k) and after the trade with no more than 2000 out of pocket to cover any fees/taxes/etc., I would like to finance no more than 22k. FYI my loan payoff is near equal to KBB trade value, so I need a trade allowance over KBB to get any equity in the car.

I'm in no rush, need to find the right deal, and need to find a blk/blk loaded GT! (currently no dealer has one with Nav in the entire Boston area!!)

mine was 26OTD, for a gt w/ nav....

it was dealer invoice plus tax (killer in NC), tag and title...

(uhm) uhhhh... I have sold cars for a Honda dealer before, and I find it very hard to believe that a dealer sold a Grand Touring Speed3 (invoice of $22,497 BEFORE destination charges, etc.) After destination charges, the INVOICE would be around $23,000... there's no way a dealer would come down $1,500 under invoice, at this point in the year (May is still early) on a car of this popularity. Not too many dealers are even willing to budge on MSRP let alone go way below invoice... did your friend have a trade?

Thanks for the responses. I think when the red one comes in I will just hold firm for 24K. But I will give the dealership a fair option, either sell me that one for 24K or order me an 08 for the same price. Seeing how this will be a straight up deal with no trade or financing they may just do it because it will be clean and fast.

MSRP seems to be the price on most dealers. I tried to buy in VA and they wanted MSRP. Then I moved to TX and wanted MSRP as well, but gave me a bad deal on my tradein. Finaly went to new mexico and the gave me a good deal on tradein but wanted $24,300 for the sport(pissed), some market adjustment BS. At the end got it for $23,000, not too bad, I guess(shrug)

My dealer wants 28k for a black GT, NO nav. Some paint coat or something they put on.. i really didn't go into it since I wasn't actually planning on getting it then. I'm not sure if they included GAP in that figure either. They wanted 3k trade-in on my car that should be 5k trade-in KBB. Needless to say, I was not happy.

and I want that car so badly :(

28k for a gt? that 's insane(shocked)

HAA HAA HAA. I wish we could get them for that price down here in Miami. I went to the dealer and they wanted 30,250 OUT THE DOOR. Talkin about some rare vehicle tax or some garbage like that. NEEDLESS to say I looked them up and down and said go *flagrant* your mother. New management is a b!$^&.

IF I might offer up some advice, don't talk to a sales person anymore. Deal with the fleet manager directly. He is the one that your salesperson keeps running to for the numbers on the car. I should do a write up on this so folks are better educated when purchasing a car (any car)

Some quick pointers though:

  • NEVER talk MSRP, do some research on Kelly BB or NADA to get an "idea" of invoice price and start from there.
  • Pick the car YOU want, don't let the fleet manager push you into a particular model.
  • If you have the ability to drive to as many dealers within 20-50 miles, hit them all. Inventories are at YOUR advantage as you increase your selections.
  • Check out the Service Department and ask the Service Manager and the folks at the parts counter some simple questions (parts availability on the car you are going to purchase, warranty issues with "mods", etc.) to get an idea of the service you would get.
  • Finally, don't walk into a dealership and buy the car that same day. You want the dealership to know you ARE interested, but it gives you time to think about the purchase and research it some more before signing any paperwork.
I can give some more tips, but a full write-up would be a better service to the readers of this Board.

btw, I bought a 2007 MS3 GT Black Mica with SIRIUS Sat, wheel locks, window tint 20% and Auto-dim Mirror w/ Homelink out the door for $23190....MSRP was $25,270

I got my black sport with the clear 3m bug gaurd package and the fuel door for 22,500 in the chicago land area.Im ok with that price. They had a red GT for 24k but I wanted the sport.
