What did you pay for your CX-5?

My guess is that is with the $2,000 Customer Cash rebate (standard rate finance or cash purchase). 15% is pretty much unheard of without rebates, but ~10%-11% off without rebates sounds like a phenomenal but possible deal. If he had loyalty as well, this makes it increasingly plausible.

Yep, $2,000 + $750 loyalty Mazda bux. The rest was dealer discount.

It's interesting listening to my brother this week as he compared his 2019 and 2025 signatures in his driveway. General feeling of "less nice" materials and touch points throughout and the wheels less nice and keyfob less nice. Just felt like as time marches on the manufacturers are cheapening things.

...15% is pretty much unheard of without rebates, ...
Haha, I'm a bargain shopper. The last three Mazda's I've bought were over 30% off MSRP. Two leftover mazda3 (2018's) in 2019 when the new generation body style was coming in. They were top trim GT hatches with tech and options. Basically $31k Mazda 3's that people don't wanna pay that kind of money for a 3. Did a two-fer deal for $41 k haha.

The other was our 2019 cx5 diesel we picked up in 2020 when they were finally tired of it sitting on the lot. I told them when it first came in that Mazda missed the target making the diesel only in the signature trim trying to compete with Mercedes and land rover or something 🤷‍♂️. So I told my guy when he's tired of looking at it I'll buy it, but the first number is gonna be a "2".

That's how I like to buy cars. When I don't need to buy a car.

It's literally the same car. I noticed no such difference between my 2017, 2020, and 2023.

But yeah the keyfob was a downgrade. I don't know what they were thinking.

You undoubtedly got great deals, I was still a Mazda dealer when the Diesels came out and what a miss on Mazda's end for that car. It came too late, too expensive and in my opinion, without enough torque grunt which is synonymous with Diesels. I loved my 2015 Golf TDI I bought right before Dieselgate (and was bought back by VW as a result). I had to go deep to move one of them (not as deep as your deal) but lucked out with a service customer who fell in love with my other in Soul Red and took it for invoice less the $5k in rebates Mazda had on them.

Again, my only caveat I want to point out for people reading this thread is your deals, while for sure highly discounted well below cost, absolutely had rebates involved in getting your deal. My statement still stands that 15% is virtually impossible to find as a base dealer discount, save for super rare circumstances (like a super low allocation product flop like the Diesel). For everyday Mazdas, no one will find 20-30% off from purely a dealer discount perspective.

Why do I care about this distinction? Because if people are using this thread to negotiate and shop for a new car, I would hate to see someone walk on a great deal because they misunderstood and think a dealer could possibly discount 20-30% plus rebates on top.

Happy shopping everyone 😁

P.S. Fun Fact, I was the one that tipped off Jalopnik on the Diesel announcement (and perhaps leaked a few other things - Sorry Mazda! 😉)
