What changes can be expected for CX-9 in 2013 model year ?

The major redesign will occur in 2014 model year. I'm in a situation where I'm going to have to buy a 2013. Any speculation on what minor changes Mazda will make for the 2013 model year ?

I'm hoping they'll improve a few things to keep the old design selling ahead of a major redesign.

Usually automakers will throw in some stuffs as standard when they used to be optional
when the model is coming to an end. You know, consume remaining part/accessory supply.
Since it will be the last model year, no cosmetic change is expected.

I agree with ceric on this. If the current cx9 does not meet your requirements, and you cannot afford an Audi q7, then the new Infiniti jx might be worth looking at. Infiniti makes some pretty nice vehicles, and their performance is very respectable as well. I have not driven the jx but I have driven my fathers fx and that is a very fun suv to drive.

The interior layout is very similar to the cx9 in terms of how the 2nd and 3rd rows are laid out. The second row looks like a direct copy of the cx9. I would have some reservations about the cvt in that big of a vehicle. The cvt worked great with the 3.5 v6 in my Altima. It was always in the power band and never had the rubber band effect that most cvts have. Not sure how well it works in a 4500 lbs suv though.

The only thing I was looking for was some improvement to the lcd console. But I can live with the current design. I doubt that Mazda will want to put any money into an outgoing model.

Maybe I can hope for a lower price for the outgoing model compared to the 2012 model, perhaps by rolling in a few more options at no extra charge (eg. navigation package on GT)

I was pretty excited by the Infinity JX as well; then I found out that the only transmission available is a CVT from the Murano. What are they thinking? While they may not sell a lot of 6 speed manuals, at least a tranny with real gears....that was a deal-killer for me.

I'm sticking with my beautiful 2011 CX-9GT

And, the price tag of JX ranges from $40K to $54K.
I will stay with Mazda CX9.
CVT's reliability under high torque is still doubtful (to me at least).

2013 cx-9

I have a feeling the 2013 CX-9 will feature a new design with the same mechanical components and the new engine/transmission will debut in 2014. I don't think Mazda can wait another year with the CX-9 as it sits. Sales are falling fast.

Aviboy97,
If my memory serves me right, you work at a Mazda dealer, correct?

You have a good memory.

I have to tread lightly with my info. Mazda has really cracked down on information they don't want to get out.

If you remember, the CX-9 kinda snuck its way into the Mazda line-up without much publicity or fan fare but quickly became a sales hit. All the attention was on the CX-7 in 2007. Right now, all the attention is on anything Skyactiv (upcoming 2014 Mazda6, current CX-5) which the 2013 CX-9 will not be and Mazda has been very very quiet on the CX-9, which is why I think something is up.

Mazda did show a prototype before CX9 went on sale in early 2007.
I haven't seen anything yet. That is why I have doubt. CX9 might come out soon.

My guess is CX9 will come out with Mazda6 as 2014
and do a double-push the same year.

I will keep you posted, but there will definitely be a 2013 CX-9 and the 2014 Mazda6 is due in February.

Thanks for the post Aviboy97.

I'm hoping for some updating in the 2013 model year, since that's what I'll be buying. It's been quite a while running with the same design, and it would make sense that something might happen sooner to remain competitive.

I don't mind missing the powertrain updates scheduled for 2014 model year.

I have a feeling that Mazda will strip even more out of the 2013 Model. They already did away with the Electroluminescent gauges, Indirect Blue Lighting, lights in the window switches, the light ring around the ignition switch which was replaced with a rough piece of plastic shoved into the space, changed the front facia with a hideous black plastic honeycomb grille what looks like an idiot with a sick grin staring at you, and the crowning glory - the
20" Girl Scout Cookie rims! Mazda needs to get a grip and fast, Ford is slaughtering them.

I traded my 2009 CX-9 for the 2012 model before getting a good look at it, I am still disgusted!
