Like many people in this forum, wife is the main driver for the brand new CX9. I am driving my 2002 Xterra with 100k miles. I am thinking of getting a new car for myself. Can you guys give me some idea?

Here are some of the points:

1. Price from $30K to 40K
2. Need to seat comforable for at least 4, 2 adults and 2 car seat
3. Daily commute 60 mile in traffic, bay area CA
4. prefer manual transmittion, but titronic is OK
5. either all wheel drive or rear wheel drive
6. thinking of infiniti G37 sedan or subaru outback, but not totally like the style.
7. Al least 275 HP, prefer over 300 HP

Though it doesn't meet your drivetrain requirements, the new Nissan Maxima can be had with just about every single option for under 40k. Another member just bought one as well.

RWD? I think your best bet would be a Hyundai Genesis 3.8, 290 HP, with Technology/Premium Package. About $40K.

Lexicon 17-speaker, 7.1 surround-sound, discrete audio system; Ultimate navigation system with 8" display, 6-disc MP3-capable DVD changer, XM NavTraffic (including a 90-day complimentary subscription); 40-gigabyte hard drive; Driver information system (DIS) with multimedia controller; Bluetooth hands-free phone system with integrated display; Smart cruise control; Electronic parking brake with automatic vehicle hold; Auto-cornering HID Xenon adaptive headlamps; 18" Hyper Silver alloy wheels; P235/50R18 all-season tires; Rearview camera with front and rear parking sensors; Cooled driver seat; Power tilt-and-slide glass sunroof; Premium leather upholstery; Leather-wrapped dash & door trim inserts; Integrated Memory System (IMS) for driver's seat; Power tilt and telescopic steering wheel; Power rear sunshade;HD Radio; Rain-sensing wipers; Auto-defogger windshield.

Keep the xterra. i assume you have it paid off.

Actually, I am very happy with my xterra. It gave me 100k trouble free miles, it has supercharge, 4WD with hi and low gears, manual transmittion. We been to LA, Vergas, lake tahoe, ski and camping. But in order to keep it, I have to change timing bell and other service. It will cost me about $3K.

Keep the Xterra...believe me you will miss it dearly. I had a 2004 Crew Cab Nissan Frontier...essenitally the same as the Xterra but with a tiny box. Man, do I miss it...please don't get rid of your Xterra.

$3k will give you another 100K miles or 8 years of trouble-free use. Much cheaper then spending $30K-40K, plus tons of more fun with the particular model you have...2002 Xterra 4WD Supercharged Manual.

I was 1st in line at my local dealer to test drove the 1st-gen Acura RL (w/ SH-AWD).
Somehow, the power was loss in the drivetrain. That car did not feel like 300hp to me.
At that time, my BMW had only 282hp and feel much faster and snappier.

Honda/Acura desperately need to revamp their old SOHC line of iVTec engines. They are more than 10 years old, for heaven's sake.
Bring me A-VTec DOHC and direct-injection. Otherwise, Koreans will eat their lunches and dinners, too....

Thanks for all the great inputs, it is interesting to see what husbands are driving (or dreaming) when the wifes are driving the CX9.

I have no wife driving my baby cx-9.

But hey, your criteria is tough for me, cause in the 30-40k range, the car that pops right out for me is a Mustang 5.0. (2thumbs)
But that one doesn`t fit all your criteria.

I`ll throw at you a bmw 3 series or a C class, but hey, since you are a power hungry guy, those won`t fit the bill at your price range.

So, I guess a G37.

In the SUV category, a 2011 grand cherokee.

Filling your criteria, thats basically it.
