What CAI do you use with your N/A Protege?

As per the title, what do you use?

I've just got the stock air box, without the crap at the front of the engine bay, but I'm looking for a good CAI.

The problem is, there are so many available, but not in the UK (Import only).

I've looked at the Weapon-R, but been told it is really restrictive, and the Injen is quite expensive.

Any input would be greatly apreciated ;)

The Simota CAI works well too. If you buy it directly from their website its around $100. Imo the injen one isn't any better and its twice the price

I had a flyin miata kit on mine and i bought it with the old turbo piping going all the way down to the bottom of the engine bay.\
Not so safe for rain but doesn't get much colder!

just picked myself up an AEM short ram intake, I definately notice a power difference, mind you my previous air intake was a cracked, stock one :P

I'm running an injen short ram intake, does the job very well and looks great:)

Mine is an eBay intake, short ram with AEM dryflow filter. I gotta cut it a lil bit to shorten it. Is running a breather filter on the valve cover bad for the motor?

Across the pond welcome aboard. The question was about CAIs but since all the SRI stuff has been thrown in & based on your location, I have to ask if the threat of hydrolocking in a mostly wet environment is worth running a CAI, given the minimal if any pwr gains from just running an SRI and having the safety of having the filter up and away in the engine bay to stay drier and eliminate the risk of hydrolocking unless driving thru headlight deep water? First a threadjack pic of my badgery from your world...........

And a couple of my different SRI configurations.......

In either one, the filter is located above the hole that the CAI piping would go down into allowing the same air getting to it's filter to come up into eng bay below SRI filter and basically be about same intake temp. The piping temp in the hot engine bay between filter inlet and throttle body will negate most if not all lower temps by having filter in the lower spot anyway so IMO it's only a filter staying dryer and in an easier place to take it off for cleaning thing vs. it being out of sight where you forget to clean it thing.

it doesnt make any difference. you will probably lose some low end power and sri will rub a lot of power in hot summer day. been there.

Does it get extremely dirty fast? I dont wanna have to clean the thing every other week
I would think so. Used to have one on my old truck and since fumes are coming out and not air going in there, it was nasty pretty much constantly. Filter users might keep in mind that the motor is not sucking in there, it's pushing out and when the hose is hooked up the fumes come out from vc and get sucked into the intake before throttle body. It's a tradeoff...no oily fumes mixing with intake air but an oily filter to keep clean.

He is in UK, how hot of a day are they gonna see more than rarely if ever. Does it get above 80*f in UK?

I have a k&n typhoon cai intake that changes back and forth from cold to short, i have it set atm with the cold air intake, it sits rather low in near the wheels, in the fornt of the bumper, ive taken it on and off before, but it doesnt get to dirty nor do i find it gets that wet. but it was like 300-400 bucks so it was super pricey. but i do love the protege 5 its a fun car to have so far my first car and i want to keep it until it dies on me.

i'm thinking about just getting this tubing :

and just putting a k&n filter on it
There ya go, as good any overpriced named brand stuff. Just make sure to position the first elbow coming off the throttle body so it doesn't vibrate against the brake mstr cylinder. Pretty close quarters in that spot with that tubing. It will rub if you aren't careful. You'll see when you install it.
