Why are you guys sensationalizing everything? Obviously no one here thought these "gripes" were deal-breakers, or we wouldn't have purchased the car!!!

So PLEASE, stop acting like we dislike our cars because there's no iPod adapter, etc. It IS, in fact, possible to find flaws in something you like. I'm positive that even Bentley owners have some gripes about their cars. It doesn't mean you wish you had a different car!

So please, lay off. Mazda appreciates (and in certain cases, acts upon) this kind of feedback - that's why we receive so many surveys. I'm sure you're more than welcome to start a thread titled "Who else thinks their CX-7 is perfect?" Please do that, and stop hijacking this thread by questioning owners who wish Mazda had made some different decisions.

(This isn't directed at spike blue, but everyone who has posted anti-gripe sentiment.)

Well said.

I certainly didn't start the post with the intention to "bash" the car. I LOVE mine. Doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement!

well yeah this is directed to me LOL!!!! Well there is something to do before you buy a new car
1st Check if the new car meet all you needs( No ipod, interior materials , confort etc) if they don't meet, why the hell you buy this car??
Im not against gripes this can make the car better in the future but there is so many people that complain alot about a damm ipod adapter, and some minor things that can be corrected easely!!!

LOL, okay, it's been beaten to death but I'll say it again just to be clear...

I KNEW THE CAR DID NOT HAVE iPOD CAPABILITIES but brought MP3 CDs with me to the dealer and tested them out... yes they worked.

But it was not until AFTER I had the car a few weeks that I realized the radio was missing other VERY BASIC FEATURES... and I'm talking about things so basic that most people DO NOT test for them. Do you test to see if you can change the radio channels?... because that's about how basic we're talking.

And, there IS NO EASY FIX. FM Trasmitters suck - and suck big-time in my area where the airwaves are very congested. If the cheapo Mazda 3 can have at least an aux input for iPod, no reason the CX-7 COULDN'T have had one. Go ahead and fill me in on this easy fix you speak of, because a lot of us with the Tech Package have been waiting for it and were hoping a guru like you would come along and enlighten us ;)

The ONLY way Mazda will know to improve certain things, things THEY missed when building and programming the car, is to hear it from consumers.

I do know that most of what I'm missing in this car the RDX had... so had I purchased the vehicle and not leased, I definitely would have paid extra for the RDX.

That being said, the CX-7 is a great car and although it's lacking some things I'd like, I'm really happy with what it has for the price I paid. It's still tremendous value for the money.

the rdx tech pkg made that car too expensive for what it is. Creeping into 40k territory for something the same size and engine as the 7 made it a really undesirable choice for me. At 38k plus tax, ill look into a benz, audi, etc etc. Too much for an RDX, heck, you could look into a basic mdx on a good deal and many other cars in that price range. Also, i think there is such a thing as TOO MUCH MONEY for an Acura. Yea its a Honda/acura it will last forever, but i dunno approaching the 40k+ mark for an Acura is a little nuts, considering you enter into BWM/Benz/Lex more upscale competition which i think acura hasnt quite yet achieved those levels.

I drove the new MDX last week, nice truck, not eve close to being worth 45/48k. good competitiosn for the benz/bmw but i would take an Mclass in second over it

I totally agree with you Mikey. I think the RDX is ridiculously priced, and Acura does not seem to BUDGE from MSRP. They put their price in line with "status symbol" cars, yet I don't think they carry the same status reputation. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't buy a car for the status of it, but if I'm going to spend "status money" it's not going to be on an Acura. LOL

Well, I just drove home in a new RDX w/ Tech for $33,966 + t/t/l. This included mud guards, wheel locks, and all-weather floor mats.

Even though I really liked the CX-7, I felt that those missing items from it were all worth the extra $3,000 (not to mention AcuraLink and realtime traffic)...yes, only $3,000 (RDX w/ tech vs AWD CX-7 GT w/ Tech).

Anyway, since when are people paying STICKER for either the CX-7 or RDX? BOTH are selling poorly...never pay sticker when demand is low. (smash)

PS I do THANK everyone here for their input on the CX...it was close, but the RDX won me over.

Check out this "prices paid" thread at edmunds.com: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX/.f0e58ab.f0e58a8/131

You'll see that people are regularly paying invoice for both the base ($30,500) and Tech ($33,700-900).

I live in Canada so the numbers are different here. A loaded CX-7 is about 3k cheaper than the RDX (42k vs 45k)

But on the other side is 2.9% lease for 24 months on the cx-7, vs. 7.6% on the RDX... + I was able to get the CX-7 for slightly over invoice.

If I were buying with my own cash I would have gladly spent the extra money for the RDX.

Well - what i was originally comparing was when BOTH vehicles were new and had just came out. I could buy my 7 under invoice, the RDX was selling at sticker or higher. It was not till recently that the RDX has become discounted, and obviously contribute that to poor sales.

If i could have bought the RDX at the same price as my 7, the decision would have been much much harder, i probably would have went for the Acura on the reliability of the Honda brand and owning hondas and acuras since i started driving. I had just grown up with them. However, i still dont like the dashwork of the Acura, that giant knob is retarded, and the unsilenced turbo was extremely annoying, especially on the highway, where the RDX isnt the most quiet and smooth truck to begin with

Premium fuel, especially NOW, people see that and run for the hills, major deterant for 2 excellent vehicles.

I highly doubt Mazda rolled out prices under invoice when they FIRST started selling.

The knob is actually very, very well thought out...IMHO much more useful then a touch-screen. Besides, who need either when you can use voice commands? :)

In the end, I agree that both are excellent vehicles.(cheers)

I bought mine at a mega dealer, walked in paid 28,5 for GT w/bose n roof w/o a hassle. The Mazdas were discounted right off the bat where i live, plus they are sold with American cars and partly owned by Ford, always discounted, those things never sell at sticker. if you paid sticker for a new 7 u got robbed.

fewer complaints

Just checked out the new gas usage ratings published by the "Gummamint" which now is much more in line with what we all seem to be getting.

That means the largest gripe response 59.18% has now vanished. Of course we can all still complain about not getting enough mileage. LOL

The Ipod problem has been resolved, even if not very satisfactorally.(shrug)

Now the only major complaint is the trip computer.

Seems that we will be a happy group of CX-7 owners.

I have really grown to like my CX-7, but here are my gripes.

1. Navigation screen is just not bright enough during the day. Even with lights override, and lights off, brightness up/etc, it is just not bright enough to see it. Tilt option goes the wrong way.

2. Cannot lock the car without the key in your hand. If you leave the keys in the house, etc, and you are outside and see it is unlocked, forget it. You can't lock the car, it will not lock.

3. Takes over 15 minutes to warm up. The remote start is worthless for the winter because the car will still be freezing when you get out. The fan system is insufficient to heat the cabin up in a reasonable amount of time. On a 20f day, it will be no less than 15 minutes before the cabin begins to warm up.

4. Remote Key is recognized about 80% of the time. Otherwise, if you don't hold the key up against the dashboard, the car will beep like crazy at you while flashing the RED KEY light thinking there is no key. Odd because you can start the car, but somebody gets in and closes the door, the car starts beeping at you with a blinking RED KEY.

5. Remote start only lasts 10 minutes. Should last at least 20 minutes IMO because this car can't get warmed up in 10 minutes PERIOD.

6. LOUSY gas mileage. Getting 13.0 to 14.0 MPG. I do Not have a lead foot. My gas costs have doubled with this car compared to my 325 HP, 350 TQ Stage 2 Legacy GT that was getting 24 MPG.

7. Insurance: Extra $200 a year for this car in the US under GIECO.

Even so these problems are minor issues.

I am coming from years of Subaru ownership, but the 2005 Legacy GT is the biggest piece of s*** I have ever owned, and I bought two of them. The Legacy GT manual has hesitation, stuttering and partial surging. Tightness in the transmission when shifting. Shifting different gears and having it almost kill or stutter. Electrical issues. And then the dealership saying I was the one that caused all of the problems because I replaced the downpipe - when the entire Legacy community knows of the issues.

Glad to be out of Suby and into this CX7.

Sounds like this was a Monday morning manufactured car.

Yes a sad litany of complaints, but if you analyse it, you may find that some of the items listed may be very fixable when it comes to dealing with the electronics. Is your remote start an OEM or an off brand? Was it dealer installed?

As for the warm up time, here too it seems overly long because mine is warmer sooner. Have you tried using ths seat warmer if you have a GT?
Leave the seat warmer on before you exit and it should be warm when you get in.

You are correct regading the Nav screen.

Good luck.

Darth Vader Grey etc. etc.

All of your other comments are right-on, but I wanted to comment about your insurance concerns.

An extra $200 a year is only $16 a month. Not much of an increase concerning you're insuring a brand new car. Seems entirely reasonable. And I certainly wouldn't list this as a gripe, against the CX-7. Any time you buy a new car and ensure it, you'll see an increase in your insurance bill.

Incidentally, I only have the GT and pay $59 a month for insurance through GEICO.

Vince.
