What are you guys paying for mounting/balancing tires?

Damn I miss my Type R with its puny 15" wheels! Mounting/balancing tires on that car was cheap (as were the tires themselves).

Today I had my first experience trying to get tires mounted on 18" rims. All the places I've called are quoting $30-40 per wheel! They are all saying its because 18's are more difficult to do.

So, what are you guys paying to get tires mounted/balanced on your MS3?

When I lived in Vegas, I paid nothing. Here in Chicago, 20-35 per tire is the going rate.

25$ for a set of four!(dance)

That was a lucky once and a while thing. Usually I'll pay 40-60 for a full set because I know people who work in the shops and I pay them directly instead of going through the shop.

i paid 15 per tire but that also included taking the tires off another set of rims...local non chain stores ftw

How come I can't find these $15/wheel deals LOL? I've had three different places quote me $15-20 initially, but then as soon as they find out I have 18" wheels and 45 series tires, the price pretty much doubles. I have found one place that will do it for $24.95 per wheel but, for the most part, these places laugh when I suggest $15 per wheel.

$15 per tire is the cheapest i've seen here. that seems to be what most people are paying.

dude, $100 for mounting and balancing? that's insane. it takes them no more than 20-30 minutes if they know what they're doing.

Here in Tampa, Tire Kingdom charges $29.95 per tire. I did find a local independent who offered to mount & balance for $22-25 per tire.

I've worked as a tire monkey before, and I see no reason why they should charge more based on size. I guess they figure people with larger diameter wheels are probably more "into" wheels & therefore more willing to pay.

I don't think its necessarily the size, its the sidewall aspect ratio of the tire. They say that the 35,40, and 45's are more difficult to install. The cheapest I could find here locally is $24.95 per... even the Tire Rack recommended installer listing for my area confirmed that. Nobody around here will do 45 series tires for $15 per, atleast that I can find. Now if you have 50-60 series tires, they will gladly do them for $15 per.

i always get mine done at america's tire which is under discount tire. they charged me under 80 bucks for the mounting and lifetime balancing for the whole set. that is with 40 or 45 series tires.

I go to UTI so I do it at school for free. Takes an hour or so since I have to rack the car, get the air tools, take off wheels, roll all 4 to the tire mounting area, etc etc. Don't know where you live but if there's an automotive school nearby, you should give them a call and see if they're willing to give you a hand. It's rare for someone not part of the school to come by but it does happen. Not sure what other schools may call it but our class in charge of wheel alignments, wheel balancing, and tire mount/dismount is the Undercar class.
