hey guys, i really do not know a lot about car audio so i thought i would post and let you guys chim in. i have two 12inch M3 memphis subs. i had both of them installed in my car and they seemed like they didnt hit hard at all. but i removed them to loose some weight. but im thinking about putting one back in with a ported box but i want to know what amp would make this sub hit pretty hard.

12 inch memphis subs, i would say need at least 600 watts nominal and probably 1000 watts peak to push them. are they single input or dual?

I just bought an Eclpise XA1000 at Super Autobacs in Stanton for $159. It's a mono class d amp. It puts out 240 watts @ 4 ohm & 480 @ 2 ohms. I have a 12" JL W3 that is dual voice coil @ 4 ohms each. I plan to run it at 2 ohms. I'm pretty surprised that Memphis subs would be that power hungry. Anyways, go with a decent 750+ watt amp & you should be fine, but knowing if you have a single or dual voice coil would helpin recommendations.

im telling you guys i really know nothing about this. how do i tell if they are single or dual voice coil?

Is this sub a 2Ohm or 4Ohm subwoofer?

Here are some diagrams for you that you should be able to understand how to wire up the sub

2Ohm dvc with mono amp - http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/1DVC_2-ohm_mono.jpg

4Ohm dual voice coil with mono amp - http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/1DVC_4-ohm_mono.jpg

Also if you are interested I have a 1000W max, 760W RMS pioneer Monoblock amp id be willing to sell to you for a reasonable price if your interested.
