What about the BEGI turbo?? Any news?

Hey guys, now that we've heard something about the tripoint turbo does anybody have any news on the BEGI turbo and when it might come out?:)

From Me
Hi Corky,

Just looking for a monthly update on the projects progress. Also, have you and your team noticed any problems with the transmissions with the test car which I assume is a 2001 or up protege? Alot of the people I have interacted with about the car have mentioned having problems including the tranny blowing up completly to needing the servos changed and many of us find that the car has begun shuttering on shifts.

From Corky

I would suggest the tranny problem is an isolated case. I've not yet seen a characteristicly weak tranny at any load less than twice the rated load. I doubt the Protege is any different.

The manifold pattern is complete and at the foundry. Ought to see the first casting about Wednesday. Intercooler is done. If present schedule keeps up I hope to drive it in about 10 days.

The whole show winds up looking pretty simple.

I have been hearing talk about a Begi turbo. Is there a website for them or are they just sold through other outlets?

FYI

Not to start s***, but I did a Google search and all I found was people who had a Begi Turbo with the pros and cons. Nothing about where to find one. Thanks for the info though.

There is no info about the Protege turbo on any website yet. Bellengineering.net and cartech racing.net are both pages to view some of Corky's handy work. Also he has had a decent amount of involvement in the flyin miata kids, flyinmiata.com

I'd like to know how in the hell he can possibly get 300hp from the stock internals! He is a god if he can do that.

300 hps???????

Wow, I would be forever happy if our cars produces 300 hps.

I emailed Racing Beat a while back and they said the car's reliable hp is only 150. It almost felt like he was insulting me. What a @#$% .

Anyways, how can we get 300 hps from our cars?????????

I'm sure he could probably do it, but I'm just as sure that the car will not be reliable at all with 300hp.

Exactly! I'm sure both spoolin and chdesign could turn up the boost and get that sorta HP...but I'm sure there engines wouldn't last too long.

Spoolin already got 230hp at the wheels with 12psi I think. I think it was just to see what happened for a dyno run though.

This is very interesting.
Corky states that 300hp is capable with our motors with proper engine managment. I am not an engineer or designer so I cannot compete with corky's statemets. But if this is true then I am in the realm capable of this horsepower(i.e. engine managment aka flyinmiata ecu) I am taking a wild guess that 300hp is capable at extremely high boost levels...roughly in the 16-18psi range. I seriously doubt that our motors can reliably attain these hp numbers at that boost level and thats the only way I see this happening on stock internals. Perhaps a tec3 system and a t3/4 turbo at 12-14psi can attain these hp levels but with little drivabilty due to the large turbo. But if Mr. Corky the man himself says it can be done then there is hope. How reliably is another story. Trust me I wont be aiming for that 300hp mark. I will wait and see until somebody else blows there motor up, to determine our maximum boost threshold:D ;)

300hp would be nice but a new motor makes that turbo system price a little higher than noted. If I could get 200hp out of my MP5 w/ 8-10 psi I would be more than satisfied. Looking forward to seeing someone give it a shot. My financial situation right now doesn't allow me to dive in that deep. Besides, I only have 1200 miles on my car.Wait until the warranty is a little closer to ending before I start "f-ing" with stuff like that.Good Luck to whoever gives it a go. Please keep your fellow Mazdonians informed as to how it goes.
