Went and looked at an EVO tonight.

in my opinion, you can get a msp for $17,000- $20,000 and save yourself 10 grand, then invest that 10 grand into the msp and i believe you would have a much faster car than the evo. be safe.............buckle up

yeah, evos are nice, but not 30k worth of nice. its like everyone thinks they are supercars or something. they are still just lancers, just like srt4s are still just neons. they stick a turbo on it and double the price. like torque said, buy a protege, and put the rest of the money you would have spent buying a evo into performance, and not only do you get a faster, better handling car, but a much sexier car as well. mitsubishi sucks!!!

you're an idiot.

Since when does a dealership allow a 17 year old to test drive a car? Let alone a $26K sports car.

Like everyone else said - make your mistakes with a slower/cheaper car. The results will be much less painful/expensive. Oh yes, you will make mistakes.

.... (lol)

you've gotta be kidding me. why start with a protege then? why not just get a 400 dollar 89 civic crx? or a 91 miata or something?

oh that's right, because it's stupid to argue stock vs. mods when car shopping.

Wow, this thread grew quick. Yea..I'm actually more mature than most 17 year olds, and a better driver too. I've managed to get roughly 22k miles under my belt in a years time, so I've got a little experience. Come Feb., I think I'll upgrade to a MSP...they will be plentiful I'm sure and won't be too expensive. I've always thought EVO's were truly badass cars, but the only one I've seen in person driving around town runs like low 11's in the quarter. Its a nice car, but I'd take a spicy over one anyday. I'm going tomorrow to drive it, I'll post my thoughts.

BTW, the salesman said that this past weekend some guy came in and bought an 03 EVO AND an 04 350Z for his 16 year old son...rich bastard.

what you got done to your evo 8 hueman?
i was talking to bass addict about how he thought 11's weren't badass on a daily driver... just in case i miscommunicated. :)

but as far as my car, my exhaust will be completed on thursday.. that's about it.... and after that, i wouldn't admit to anything anyway ;)

No, low 11's daily driven is just stupid fast. IMO. Maybe I just worded it wierd, and actually low 11's is just a guess because the guy here that has it doesnt race it that I konw of. However, he raced a camaro ss that ran a 12.5 and lost him...

Hueman, here's his list of mods...tell me what u think. (BTW...18psi)

*stealth twin turbo*(viper eater)
* Lancer Evolution "Natalia" mods: greddy turbo timer, HKS boost gauge, greddy a/f & egt, bushure intake, 3" turbo-back exhaust HKS titanium, upper ic pipe, HKS SSQV, greddy profect e-01, greddy e-manage, 780cc delphi injectors, blitz V-spec front mount ic, spec stage 3 clutch, fidanza flywheel, 255 warboro intank &255 inline fuel pumps, HKS 272 cams, ARP head studs, HKS steel head gasket, ported/polished head & turbo manifold, port-matched turbin housing, clipped stock turbo, 3 angle valve job, extrude/hone intake manifold. direct port nitrous, intercooler spray<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

looks like a LOT of money.. wow... sounds like he needs to upgrade to a bigger turbo though. i think, for a normal evo, you can get around 400hp, without upgrading the turbo and without nitrous. it sounds pretty flippin' badass nonetheless. (though, of his mods, i've heard bad things about the hks ssqv)

i wonder who did his tuning... i'd really like a dyno sheet... hmm, wonder if he's on evolutionm.net

I think I agree w/ the guys who said that you shouldn't be driving an Evo at 17.First of all, whoever is payin' for insurance will be payin' up the ass since it's a sports sedan.Second,Unless, your parents consider money no object and willing to pay for the monthly payments(which will be no less than 400/month) you better be working a high-ass paying job.I say stick w/ your P5 for a while until you save up at least 5K(maybe more) for the down payment and you have a decent job that pays well.So that if you want to get your Evo,maybe in a couple of years, you can afford it.And your insurance won't be that high. That's what I'm doin' to save up for the new style Impreza RS.

bottom line.....any parents willing to buy their 17 year old a $30K sports car and pay for everything including insurance, deserve to be shot.

Damn guys, who said I was getting it? I went to stare at it and wish about having it, there is no way in hell they'd buy it for me. All I want to do it is drive it and go home. Hueman, his tuning was done here in Bowling Green...at "Full Spool"...I believe, at least that is where his brother had his probe tuned at.
