Glad you're ok, I wen through almost the same thing about a year ago and I know how it feels. So here's my input.
You would rather it be totaled, mine was not and I know it will never be the same. After it was "fixed" i had a front axle creak and the dealer said it was cracked, luckily the car was still under warranty and they fixed it. I hit a mountain going about 40, no airbags and the damage didn't look that bad but as you know now the s*** on this car is expensive.
Not too bad right?
The original estimate was about 7k, frame was fine one bent wheel only major engine damage was the oil pan.
3 months later the total bill to my INS was 21000$(hand) things ranging from the 800$ head lights to 1500$ for a complete new wire harness becuase a few clips were broke. Everything from the radiator forward is new, one new fender and they repaired/painted the hood(bumper color is off REALLY bugs me.)
I hope this helps at all, yours looks way worse and OMG how the F did that happen to the manifold. I hope you get payed out and can start new. The part I hated the most were the damn rental cars for 3 months (out of pocket).

I understand perfectly why people drive them. I'm not trying to knock them in any way... They are comfortable, have a sporty dynamic, and make great, fun daily drivers. But they just aren't very fast. Comparing it to the MS3 is like comparing Bratwurst (nourishing and filling, with some flavor) to Wasabi (an explosion of spice that's oh so nice).

i happen to think the gti's look good, maybe not as much as the later models, but still good. woulda loved an r32 but too 'spenisve. i'd also love to test drive one to see what all the mags are feeling whenever they praise "german handling" compaired to every other car up against it

I'm sorry, but gti wins in every comparison unless it's ONLY based on speed. A car has so much more to offer then speed.

Well if we're talking about the new Smiley-Faced model...I'd still say the 08/09 ms3> 2010 GTI. Who in their right mind wouldn't like the seats in the 08/09 ms3?

VW= many expensive trips to the dealer....Parts are even more so...
I just can't figure out why VW doesn't give ppl what they want & offer the right tune to go w/ the 2.0 FSI. It's not a bad engine, and in Audi TTs form it cranks 260 [?] hp. I read a mag article one time where a tuner shoehorned some kind of - get this - twin turbo V12 in the hood. 600+ hp, insane. I think it was even, if not a straight VW effort, at least sponsored by them...I'd buy a 600+hp 3000 lbs car. Where do I sign? My credit is good! (headbang)

i would be upset if they DIDN'T total my car, if it looked like that... i know you have a soft spot for it, but trust me, it will never be the same after a hit like that.
