Hello All,
I'm Mrlilguy's friend Kevin, I participated in this great adventure of installing all of these parts as well as jumping on the dyno.
From what I understand, the upgraded pump is there to allow a higher pressure/volume of gas in the fuels system to eliminate the problems of fuel cut in the midrange of the power band. From the dyno graphs, you can see that the upgraded pump has a more rich af/r throughout the power band, which consolidates the purpose of the pump. I believe the problem we ran into is around 4500rpm, the pump created rich condition in which causes the car to lose its peak horsepower possibility. With some sort of fuel management, the upgrade pump unlocks a greater amount of modification possibilities(IE Big Turbo Upgrade). As Jon stated, we ran into a huge problem with sputtering, pulling out the plugs confirmed our initial guess of foul plugs. We tried to find some plugs around town, but VDP's owner Steve couldn't manage to get a hold of anything until Tuesday afternoon. We also ran into the problem of heat soak, which added to our list of variables. What you CAN tell from these graphs is that the pump does flow more fuel eliminating fuel cut and has a more generally consistent/smooth flow. Honestly, these graphs do not show the true quickness of Jon's MS3. When it comes down to it, the car was performing AMAZINGLY Friday night as we were doing testing/racing in "Mexico" and there is no denying it. (usa)
My summary of this weekends adventure:
*The MS3 is one hell of a quick car...
*The MS3 is a sickening quick car with an upgraded pump...
*An intake is a definitely the first mod you should put on your car...(moves
AF/Rs from **< 10.0:1 to 10.7:1, increasing nearly 10whp or more) ** off
the A/FR Scale.
*A front mount intercooler is definitely a modification needed to deal with
heat soak.
*Methanol Injection didn't turn out as well as planned. (created a more rich
condition)
*Make sure you have Teflon tape and a tub of silicone, otherwise your garage
will have a huge pool of windshield wiper fluid all over it. (Doh*)
*Some sort of fuel management and tune will be need eventually to open up
larger possibilities and reach higher peak numbers.
*The pump is not benficial to a stock car, but if you have big plans for your
car, the upgraded pump is an essential mod.
From what I have seen/felt myself, I definitely think that an upgraded pump is WELL WORTH the money.
Thanks for the great weekend Jon!
(PS: I expect you to be around when my car goes turbo, so my frustration can head your direction. (lol2) )
