I would be keen on a vent like the newest gen. of celicas have, where the center part of the hood doesn't quite come up high enough and forms the scoop rather than the upper part of the scoop rising from the hood.

I also like the reverse style ones like on the evos...

When I replaced my hood with th FI carbon fiber hood I was very upset to find out that the stock MS6 hood really isn't all that heavy, it's 1/4" thick stock ducting that makes up almost 1/2 of the weight of the hood.

You might want to pull off the ducting to check if it's the same on the MS3 before you invest in a lighter hood that you'll have to re-install the heavy stock ducting onto..

Jdm $$$

I agree with the weight on the hood (it's freaking heavy) and i luv an air ram duct. I found a company in Japan that is currently making one ... but it is about usd$1200 (carbon) not including shipping ... !! I am guessing shipping will be about $300 to 400. Here are some pic how it will look , ENJOY !

I'd like to have a hood like this.

I believe it was custom made but, it sure is kick ass looking.

Its aggressive as hell but, something like it would be nice.

That could not look more retarded. Might as well send your car over to Wings West....

A simple black carbon fiber hood OEM replica would be sufficient.

CO2 kit ftw! My friend and I were talking about doing this to my car, much cheaper than fmic and can still keep a sleeper look
Actually, that's a very good idea. The only question I'd have is whether the halo will fit on the TMIC since the one on our cars is square, not more ractangular. I'll have to dig up some old bookmarks for the companies that make the CO2 kits.

EDIT: Ah, here we go! http://www.cryo2.com/products.asp?m=sp&pid=5

sleeper look?? lol either way the madza speed badge or the spoolin turbo will give it away, u do have a valid point but it think it would look/work so much better with a front mount and an oem carbon fiber hood

If you want to keep a TMIC stick with Mazda and mold in a vent like the one the FC's use for their TMIC.
I would have to side with the guy suggesting CO2. I like the stealth look and the weight of the hood helps FWD traction, especially at launch.

hey man, thanks for the very cool site. I really would like to do this, I dont think it would be too difficult to install. I noticed some performance gains when driving in the dead cold of winter, this would make summer time feel the same way!

The kits on here are a little pricey, I have a CO2 tank from an old keg-erator, i wonder if I rigged that up if that would do the same job? certainly wouldn't look as nice, but much cheaper

You could put a kit together yourself. It's basicaly a N2O kit. If you can use your bottle you could get some fittings, a nozzle, jets, a solenoid or other to fire it off, some line and a few other little things. A little research to put it together. You could use a grommet and run a line into the shroud around the TMIC.
Realy would not be all that difficult.

yeah i didnt even think about running the lines with the plastic housing still in place... that is ultimate sleeper (well until fog starts coming out the grill haha)

when it gets a little warmer in delaware I might mock something up and see just how feasable this is. The one problem I have is drilling into the floor of the hatch to run lines/mount the tank

bump for mornin people.. and for me being awake at 3 am..
I wanted to keep quiet about this but yes we will be getting hood done for the MS3. We will have one that looks stock and on that has a scoop to assist the TMIC in cooling. Damn it I wanted this to be a surprise as well. Hood gets to the shop first of April and then the scoop gets installed on new hood first of May. The underside is going to be killer but we have a injection molding place that thinks they can make them for us.

Is this a light, CF hood? In black? Est price? (hi)

The stock MS3 hood weighs 39 lbs (I took it off and weighed it). Not to heavy really, or at least, not what I expected.

Yes, they also used to make nozzles that looked like wind sheild washer squirters. I had a nitrous purge through 2 of them.

Hre's a nice hood.
