We Got Our Recall !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have an 03.5, yet when I registered on the mazda site, it said that there were no recalls on my vehicle...I checked the vin range, and my number comes just before the range of numbers they say is affected...

Mine also comes before the VIN range. Its an '03 but mfg Sept'02. This means we dont get free warranty coverage for this - in the eyes of Mazda, our cars are not affected. But how can we be sure? Do they REALLY know the exact batch of vehicles with low torqued screws? what if my car gets the problem in a year ? I guess it would be out of pocket payed and a small loan from the bank

ok, so my mazdaUSA thing says I have a recall, but I never got a letter...what does that mean? And I'm totally in that VIN range...

Just go to mazda dealer give your vin# and they will tell you right away if your are qualified for the recall. They are connected to Mazda web site and they get all their info from it.

Good luck.

My other problem is that I'm under 25, and therefor, I won't be able to get the "free rental car" (the dealership apparently uses enterprise, and hence, enterprise's rules) for the day or 2 it takes them to get my car done, and I can't go a whole day (or more) without a car. U think there's any way I can get them to let me use a loaner car from the dealership or somthing?

Never mind...I got it straightened out. Has it taken any1's dealership more than a day to do this?

The inspection took a couple of hours. The repair took about 8 days. Apparently, both the manifold and fuel rail on my car needed replacement. The fuel rail for the new style intake manifold was seriously backordered so Mazda had them install a new older style (Pre-recall) manifold and rail. My dealer conferenced me in on the call with Mazda USA explaining the situation, explaining the repair and the differences between the parts. I would always prefer the latest and greatest parts but it appears that the differences were only to facilitate production, nothing meaningful to the end user.

All in all, Mazda and the dealer get a thumbs up for keeping me involved in the process and discussions and updating me regularly on the developments.

hmmm...I'm asking because I need to pay for the insurance for them to let my get a rental car (they have NO loaner cars!!! Not like, none available, just like, none!), and that's just shy of $20 a day, so if it's more than a day or 2, I dunno if I even want to take it (granted, cheaper than a blown engine, but you know what I mean...)

For what it is worth, the dealer or Mazda picked up the whole charge for the rental (via Enterprise) for the whole time including the first day when it was still just an inspection.

I saw what the inside of my manifold looked like - I would get it checked.

I have one we are going through the same thing. They should have made it so we couldn't order that manifold. I had already installed it and couldn't get the fuel rail on. Now it's been two days waiting for the new manifold again.

The recall shows up when I login to mazdausa.com, and my VIN number falls within the range specified in the letter... but the dealer didn't do anything with it. I took it in with an appointment and they inspected it and said I didn't need anything done. Does that sound right, or should I be worried? If it's supposed to be in the recall, shouldn't they replace the parts? I don't want this thing to come back to bite me a year from now.

Was anyone else who was supposed to be in the recall told their car didn't need anything done??

If you already had a manifold put on then all you do is a compression check. Any other scenerio involves pulling the manifold off and at least replacing the screws.

yeah...lol, I just read my post and it makes no sense lol. They're paying for the rental, but I have to pay the insurance, which amounts to $15-18 a day...

how long should that take?

I've done 6 so far. 5 of the 6 have taken about 1-1.5hrs each, the other one has taken 4days and still counting.

why so long for the 6th?

Because that one needed an intake manifold. We ordered and recieved it. I installed it, found I couldn't bolt the fuel rail to it. Tried ordering the fuel rail to fit it, found it is on a huge backorder. Removed the intake I had just installed, Had to order the older style intake manifold, and am still waiting for it.

If you don't mind me asking: What dictates whether or not you need the whole manifold or just the screw kit?

(deadhorse
I would like to know that too. I picked up my car today. Dealer only changed screws and gasket although I am positive that I heard screws rattling around my engine on couple occasion. If they only change screws why did they kept my car a whole day and they needed it in the morning the next day too for a few hours?

Where are you located in NY BlkZoomZoom?
