Perfectly chilled. Don't care which it is for. I know the VICS are the ones falling out. VTCS are gonna be taken out. I did say the loctite & torque was for VICS. If keeping both wouldn't ya want all screws on both to stay put. Seems like more how-tos on VTCS to get dude a picture of was all...............

Red loctite & proper torque will ensure the VICS ones will not come off. As far as the VTCS is concerned, it won't have actuator butterflies or screws to fall off after I'm done.

just got my car checked and the screws replaced

no problem here

add a 30,000 mile tune-up...and its running like a champ...

and the best part......free fix...they even washed it for me

Took my car in last Thursday, they called me up Friday and said that mine needed to be replaced and they had to order the part. Tech had a vacation day on Saturday, was told I would get my car back Monday. As told to me by the service department when I called yesterday afternoon:

Apparently, there is a back order on the parts to fix this. Mazda didn't think as many of these would need to be replaced as there are. Was told if they can't locate the parts by Friday, they wouldn't come in until March. Of course, my car is in pieces at the dealer and they want me to leave it there until they can get the part in and installed. In a Mazda 6 Wagon loaner, but it feels like a big ass boat compared to mine.

bummer on the back order. Guess you have to sport the wag0n for quite some time, at least for free.

Im just about to leave to drop off my car at the dealer regarding the recall. Although my ViCS and half of the motor was replaced one year ago (last February) I wanna see if this recall includes anything else besides that was replaced.

Ok quick update:
Just got home from dealer and amazingly the rep. guy who helped me last March 2005, when my car was getting new motor-half, actually recognized me as soon as I walked in! s*** Im surprised! Well anyhow, he told me that I should leave my car there (duh! thats why Im here! hehe) and they will do complete diagnostics list regarding this recall, instead of just checking what needs to be replaced according to the recall besides of what was changed in March 2005 (reminding you...5,429 U.S. dollars in replacement parts). So, now Im stuck with damn auto trans. rental car, although I really like this 2005 Scion tC...that sports edition or whatever it is. Once Ill hear from the dealer, Ill post an update here.

no. The recall is only for 03 NA pro's (I think specifically the P5). I don't think the MSP even has VICS, it's just a hinderance to terbow engines (from my understanding, they work better in single runner setups).

You guys think that my dealer will take a look at if I already removed my VTCS? I'm sure I voided my warranty by doing that, but I dunno if that would mean that they wouldn't touch the VICS. I guess it doesn't really matter if they don't, I can always loc-tite those screws myself.

Um, yeah, in that case I'd recommend just doing it urself, I don't think they'd do it if you've messed around w/ it. But then again, that's just my opinion...anyone else?

Results of Intake Manifold Recall

Hi all, new member here. I put my 03 P5 in the shop today to have the intake manifold recall performed. My dealership (Whitten Mazda, Richmond VA) messed up the ordering several times so I had to keep delaying bringing in the car. Now that the work is finally being performed, I'm wondering how it will drive afterwards. Car lately has been running rough, as though airflow disruption, hesitation, loss of power. Rattling during revs, though not the machine-gun sound others have described.

My question - those of you who've had the recall performed, did you car drive better afterwards? I keep my car in tip top shape so I know everything's kept up as it should be. Just hoping that the roughness of late is directly due to the need for recall...and will be resolved when I pick it up.

had mine done today. don't let them BS you. i had an 8:30am apt., droped it off came back at 2 cause i hadn't heard from them so i wanted to push them a little to get it done already. they still hadn't touched it! isn't that the same old story with those guys! after talking with a service tech about the fact i had come from out of town and have waited ALL day for my car and needed it done today they said not to worry come get it at 4:30. needless to say i still left pissed. 3:30 rolls around and i get a call from the dealer to come get it, done deal. apparently it should only take 2hrs tops for them to get the job done when they really want to. don't let them jerk you around and say all day or come back tomorrow cause they'd be full of crap. wish i knew that from the start especially since i had an early AM apt.

motor toast

Well i never heard of the recall, nore got anything. and turns our the car falls in for the recall. After of course the motor ingested the screws at about 5500rpm with a big rattle rattle bang... knock knock knock.. No 1 spark plug is obliterated, and i have 125 thou runout on the crank pulley..

40 000km on the car and now the dealership is jerking me around, saying it is not possible to have engine damage..I know what a rod knock sounds like.. as i have thrown quite a few out the sides of oilpans in my life.

They are beating around the bush about a loaner car, and the actual time it will get fixed.. saying the parts are backordered, and that they will know in a few days.. turns out they are backordered until mid June!!!!

I'm thinking seriously about buying a Protege5 in the next few weeks and have been enjoying this forum and the information here. I have a quick question about the VICS recall. If I buy a used Protege5 that's eligible for the recall, will any Mazda dealer perform the recall, even if the car is past the 50,000 mile warrenty? I've never had to deal with a recall or warrenty work, so I'm not sure what's involved. Since the scanned letter I saw on this forum says it's an emissions-related recall, I'm pretty sure Mazda has to do the work even if a car is past the regular warrenty.

So has anybody had the recall done when their Protege5 is out of warrenty? Was it a hassle getting the dealer to do the work? I won't have the letter with me, is it necessary for getting the work done?

I'm thinking that mileage is irrelevant to the VICS recall. Recall & warranty are 2 different things. Mileage should apply to warranty only. Any dealer should be able to tell you if Mazda has performed recall on a vehicle you are thinking of purchasing based upon the VIN.
