We Got Our Recall !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm taking Dru's car in tomorrow. We'll see what they do.

Eric, what stealership u takin er to? I didn't think there was one in athens?

This question is for every1 else: Do y'all make appointments, or just show up? Also, do you bring the letter with you?

Make an appointment. It takes awhile to do,and if it is anything like my shop, we are booked about 5days in advance.

I was supposed to take it in this morning at 10, but I over slept. There's a new dealer in Athens now. I'll probably just wait for Dru to get back in town then take it over.

nope the letter is not required. i took my car in this morning..... i had to make an appointment.....Putnam Mazda in Burlingame, CA. they're service rocks!

they ran out of rental cars so they gave me a Toyota Highlander

Don't worry about mods ?

Yes. Dealerships love to not help. Go stock, it couldn't hurt. (shrug)

Yes, they are picky.

When I came in with "I found a hunk of metal in my #1 cylinder", they said
they knew about the problem, and it should be no problem to warranty it.

Couple days later ... "you have mods on your engine, we'll have to check into
this with Mazda Warranty people" ... I said - you've got to be kidding, the VICS,
or VTCS or whatever falls off, and you know it's a problem with these cars, and
you still question my mods ???
.... never heard anything about mods from them again.

I have Intake, Header, Cat Back, and relocated 2nd O2 sensor.
.... and now a brand new engine: :)

I never got a recall notice.

I'm out of town (aka don't have access to my mail or my car), but I have the thing on my MazdaUSA page that says "2003 Protege Intake Manifold Shutter Valve Emission Recall." Does this mean that I have the recall, or did they put this on every p5's page? Some1 w/ a p5 that is not in the recall...if you could please check, cuz I'd like to make an appt w/ my dealership for when I go back, but I want to be sure the recall includes me b4 I do so.

Thanks

EDIT: Called MazdaUSA, they said I'm in the recall, so I'm gonna make the phone call.

I called about it before Christmas and they got my info and said they were going to order the parts... well, this week, I get a call saying that they need to inspect it first--should take less than an hour. And only based on the inspection will they actually order the parts and do anything. Is this about the same thing everybody else is going though, or are they just replacing them outright?

Ok, I called my local stealership, and turns out (according to them) it's a full day's job, and I can't get a rental because I'm under 25 (I'm 20...). Should I pester them for a loaner? I need a car to get to work / school, I can't go a day w/o it, and they're not open on weekends...

Any suggestions?

I have an 03.5, yet when I registered on the mazda site, it said that there were no recalls on my vehicle...I checked the vin range, and my number comes just before the range of numbers they say is affected....does anyone know if I still need to have this done? It seems to me that maybe I should...I just moved, and dont have a close dealer, so if I dont have to go, I would rather not....Im kinda worried now though.....

Hmmm, that's strange. The timeframe for those VINs was supposedly march-july which raises a couple of questions. What is the production month of yours? Why would something pre-march be called 03.5 if your production date is march or sooner? Seems a little early. On a different note, what are you getting out & riding?

Well, thats what I thought too...I bought the car in December of 03, its got the sub and no roofrack, but if you go by the vin, it says it was made earlier than it should have been...maybe they converted it to an 03.5 by putting in the sub and taking off the roof rack????? who knows....

And I ride mountainbikes, thats what the saying meant......Downhill racing, skatepark riding, and general mayhem is what I like(thumb)

I just checked the inside of the door, and it says that my car was manufactured on 1/03(notcool)

So its an 03.5 that was made in on the first month of the year?.....weird but I guess maybe I dont have the problem some of you guys do......my car has been great so far, doesnt burn any oil at all, doesnt make any weird noises, and so far, with 41k miles, I have only had a problem with the egr valve, which I actually fixed myself....

Mountain biking is the best!(first)

Sorry, off topic.

Agreed, I have 11 bikes at the house & none are road bikes. My "roadish" bikes are mountain bikes with fat smooth tires. Oh & rejoice in not being included in the recall but keep an ear out just in case.............

The recall shows up when I login to mazdausa.com, and my VIN number falls within the range specified in the letter... but the dealer didn't do anything with it. I took it in with an appointment and they inspected it and said I didn't need anything done. Does that sound right, or should I be worried? If it's supposed to be in the recall, shouldn't they replace the parts? I don't want this thing to come back to bite me a year from now.

Was anyone else who was supposed to be in the recall told their car didn't need anything done??

yes you should be worried. Not to throw you on a scary side of it, but recall is a recall. Part HAS to be replaced. Take the car to a different dealer, or better yet call MAZDA USA 1-800-222-5500 and tell them that your dealer said that nothing is wrong...basically refused even though you brought a recall letter. Once recall is issued, they have to replace the part that was recalled. Those ass hats at the dealers are retarded.
