We Got Our Recall !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

actually, it seems you're too arrogant in reading the DEALER letter that I've found AND posted which CLEARLY states "variable tumble control valves" and its inspection and screw replacement

just because you read the OWNER letter which everyone affected got, doesn't mean you know the specifics of this recall

this is the message that I keep getting when clicking on your link that leads to protegeclub.com

Post the pics of letter here. If that letter says VTCS, then you will be the 1st one to have this problem (to my knowledge) OR there is a 2nd alternative......dealershit or whoever printed the letter out for ya, ****** up with words.

and I don't have this problem because I don't even have VTCS nor a US-spec intake manifold anymore

I know of a few guys locally that had their VTCS screws fall out though

Ok, the letter that you just posted is different from the one that you have linked on clubprotege.com. This particular letter is not directed to you, its directed to MAZDA Dealers. And yea this is very 1st time Ive heard "problem" regarding VTCS. Ill get more info from MAZDA USA.

ooo pwned. Seems like the 2002.5 is the best of both worlds. All the upgrades of the 2003 except for I guess the intake manifold screw torque specs :P

*crosses fingers*

I was wondering if anyone has had there car check out at the dealership for this recall already. A friend of mine owns a 2003 P5 and got her recall letter sometime last week and brought her car to the dealership the other day. They told her they were going to replace the intake mainifold. They also said the car has low compresion. Is this due to the intake mainfod or is this something more? I think something has already let go like the screws from the manifold falling into the engine and scoring a piston. She's been complaning about loss of power and bad gas mileage. Anybody have any input?

I posted both the OWNER letter and the DEALER letter on clubprotege

Ok. As I said before. Just a letter wont do it. Give me some hard evidence.....Show me actual pics of someone's intake manifold off the motor with lose screws/shutters on VTCS, THEN Ill believe that VTCS is involved. Otherwise, I still say that MAZDA Corp. still doesnt know for sure which system (VTCS or ViCS) actually loses screws. (obviously they dont, at least for now) Not busting your balls, but asking to look at the facts and statistics. All of the people...at least on these boards HAVE had the ViCS screws failure. NONE of people that I've know/heard of here have had the VTCS screws going loose.

well i dropped off my car at the dealer 2 days ago, and they plan to complete it today, and picking it up tomorrow, good to have loaner car..

well. what the dealer told me is that they have to order completly new intake mani to replace the whole thing.. and reason is that they never done this job before.. WOW
and i asked them if i can get msp mani since i did plan to remove vtcs for my furture turbo install, they declined my request..

anyway, i guess it will fix my problem that i had with my p5 since the day of purchase.. lil knocking noise and rough ideal hopely.

i will give you update when i pick up my car...

and finally i get to install my magnaflow cat back!!

I have done 3 recalls so far. You replace both the VICS and VTCS screws. It only pays 1.8 to remove the manifold, swap the screws, clean off the gaskets, then install the manifold. Kinda sucks. So far I found 2 loose Vics plates but no missing parts yet.

Gotcha man. My take on the whole contravercy: VTCS is being replaced for the hell of it.........I still find it hard to believe...blah blah blah. You probably read my last few posts about VTCS vs ViCS contravercy.

Today when I was warming my car up I heard screw or screws rattling inside the engine. The RPM was not high about 1500. It took about 30 sec. before they fell out. I just wonder if this could do any damage to my inside engine? My car seems OK. No rough idling, good pick up as usual.

Mazad really sucks!

This recall doesn't affect 2002.5 IIRC. How sure are you that you heard scres rattling around inside the engine? Are you sure it wasn't just the sound of solid lifters ticking away? Also, if you did hears screws why oh why did you leave the car running? I haven't experienced it myself, but I do assume that screws in the combustion chamber would be a most unsettling cacophony.

Got the letter yesterday but just makes me want to do the VTCS removal & VICS check/tighten thing myself on the IM even more now. I have no faith in the dealer except to cause different lame problem when trying to fix the one that hasn't happened yet. Yes I have warranty left but doesn't mean I want to waste time unecessarily dicking around with dealer to make them fix something else due to lameassness to end up in same place-needing VTCS removed & VICS loctited in red & properly torqued.

My 03.5 P5 is at the shop today. They found the screws at the bottom of the manifold. The compression tests all came back fine. They have ordered a new manifold and will be installing it tomorrow. Any other questions I should be pressing the dealer on tomorrow morning before they button her back up?

They were definitely screws. Metal hitting metal.

Check this out. I just got it today. Tommorow I am doing mine.

Any ideas if this applies to euro Mazdas too? I have 2003 323 Sport, which i guess is the same care. So not sure, should i worry or not :)

Just heard back from the dealer. The intake manifold AND the fuel rail will be replaced. The fuel rail is on back order until 1/10.

I miss my car.
