All right

My mom bought a used 2003 Tribute, but the dealer only supplied us with just ONE PATS key. I asked the stealership how much it will cost me a new key and program it. They wanted an arm and leg for it ($25 for the key, $90 for programming it). I have the Tribute workshop manual and there are instructions for programming keys with NGS tester and WDS tester. I wanted to know if a regural OBD II Reader would have the same accesbility to the PATS system as the NGS and WDS testers, if is the same, where can I rent one so i could perform this procedure without paying $90 for programming a key.

Thanks in Advance!!!

a regular OBDII reader wont work. if anything, the only one i know that might is like 1,500. so um, good luck.

and the key they gave us is a ilco brand key with the ford oval, who knows what the previous owner of this truck did with the 2 originals.

Thanks for the info, dexter

so, that means that if I want another key, i will have to give them my arm and leg for a piece of metal with plastic.

i didnt know the 2003 tributes needed that PATS s*** anyways, thought it was only for the newer designed cars. Are you sure you can just program it yourself?

as a matter of fact, the tribute is a ford escape with mazda badges, with 2 more HP, and stiffer suspension. (ugh)

On top of the wds you need internet access and a couple of passwords to do it also. Its a pain in the butt.
