Waxing VS. Polishing

I was looking into some battery operated Simoniz Polishing machines.

A buddy of mine swears by it and loves the results.
Other friends have bad experiences, swirls and scratches. User fault?

What do you guys think?

I haven't tried any power buffers or anything yet. Sounds like a good idea but I don't mind the work out

Neither do I, I am just curious if buffing gives you a deeper richer, better, FANTASTIC shine!!!

It would be faster which may effect how much water evaporates from the wax while it is going on. Don't know how much if any difference it would make.

There are scratch remover waxes on the market.
Note, those products take a tiny bit off your clearcoat, thus removing the scratches. Make sure you give it a good wax job once your done with the scratch remover.

i use ALL microfiber rags on my car, to dry, wash and wax. and i dont have scratches. so try that

Get a screen for the bottom of your bucket. I have seen them somewhere for sale. The idea is for the grit rinsed out of your cloth to sink below the screen so it doesn't get back on the cloth when you go for another batch of suds.

It is a gel; you just wet the car and apply it directly to where you want to wash and just start scrubbing. No bucket at all which is pretty nice. I am pretty happy with the way it looks after a wash, but my car is only 4 weeks old and hasn't been really dirty yet. Wash it every week just to keep it nice.

Throw away any terry cloths, cotton cloths, shimmies, cheap rags.
Microfibre ONLY!! Get a microfibre wash mitt and 3-4 microfibre cloths and you're good to go for a while.
Everytime I'm done with my microfibre, I bring it to the laundry to wash it out. If you let the dirt dry into the cloths, it'll just scratch your paint next time you use it.

And bucket w/ screen work wonders.

As for those Simoniz polishers - they are cheap at Canadian Tire. My friend uses a cheap one and his Mitsu Lancer is swirl marked to hell. It's a combination of cheap polisher and him not knowing how to use it.
I'm really skeptical about those cheap polishers. I'd go with good or none at all.

I have seen packs of the microfibre at COSTCO in the automotive/cleaning section.

One word of caution when using microfibre, REMOVE THE TAG from the rag!

My 3's finish didn't make it through the winter as well as I would've liked, so there's a few scratches and plenty of micro-swirling...

I will get one of those microfiber mittens and just do it by hand. Don't want to get swirl marks already.

I just bought Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant and Pinnacle Signature Series II Carnauba Paste Wax. Applied it on a test spot, looks and feels amazing!!

Will see if my local hardware store keeps some of those grid guards.
