I'm planning to wax my 5 tomorrow. It's only been driven for a week so far, so of course the paint is still flawless. Of the following products I already own, which steps should I apply?

  1. product_A3016.jpg
  2. product_A2116.jpg
  3. product_G12718.jpg

I'm 50/50 on Step 1. I don't see a reason why it'd need deep cleaning as the paint is fresh and new, however, not sure if this preps the paint somehow for waxing.

I'm thinking there's absolutely no need for Step 2... or, maybe I should ask, when should I start using Step 2? Polish worries me in that it contains abrassives, correct? I almost feel like I'm wearing down the paint every time I'd polish it.

Of course, the NXT is going on.

The step 2 that you have wouldnt be my choice for a new car,i would go for a paint sealer, wich would do a protection film between the clear coat and the wax,and then i d wax it,to have the best protection from minor scratches and swirls....the sealer is the best thing for you to prevent it from any futur damages against dust and road sandblast....and the wax of course is a must....(glare)

After one week already wax. Is that a must. I have mine almost 3,5 week now. Still no cleaning at all. I think I will do mine this week then.

buy the tech wax in the can that works great btw waxing your car even brand new is a good idea it protects it from the sun, sand, waterspots etc... just a good idea thats all your car man treat it like you would a wife...well dont beat the car that hard

My shops here in Holland only got those Turtle wax stuff. Any good those Turtle brand. And what kind to take. There is to much. I really am a new on to this. And I really like my 5 to be protected.

Will do! I'm kind of excited because it's supposed to be 77* and sunny tomorrow, perfect day to work on it. :D

Jager, while I don't have experience with the brand, Turtle wax is better than no wax at all. Here are the basics of applying wax --> http://www.samarins.com/maintenance/car_wax.html I'm sure there are better instructions elswhere in the internet, but I'm too busy watching the Eagles right now ;)

yea i wouldnt worry about doing step 1,but the polish and wax is a MUST.but the 1 thing ive learned is to be carefull washing.use a chanelle or microfiber cloth to wash with and 2 buckets.that seems to be the main cause for all my light swirl marks.too bad i didnt know this 5 years ago.

You may want to use a paint cleaning clay in place of the paint cleaner for setp #1. The paint cleaner will remove light oxidation and swirl marks. You should not have any of either of these. The clay will remove any adhered (sp)?) items, paint overspray, road tar, other road sticky stuff, that may have gotten onto the vehicle during transport, or during your first weeks driving. It is not a necessary step, but I have found that it improves the life expectancy of the wax by at least two fold.
Opus
PS The NXT wax has worked very nicely on my mothers Acura Legend coupe, three months of outdoor parking under oak trees and it still looks like it was just waxed, and very easy removing the sticky stuff.

Paint cleaner is for older paint. Your paint is a month old, no need to clean it.

You want to clay, wash, polish then wax. Then get a quick detailer and use that after every car wash.

I use Zaino and absolutely love the results.

Okay opus and Kid, you two are the winners. I decided to wash, clay, polish, wax. I noticed a HUGE difference after claying... you think it's smooth, then you clay and it's like butta!

I have a bunch of pics... let me sort out the good ones, and get them up online... I'll post 'em by this evening. :)

About Mazda paints: NEVER, NEVER use a cleaner on the paint. If the paint is *Mica* the flake is in the clearcoat and using cleaner removes the clearcoat eventually. If the paint name is called *Metallic* the flake is in the paint layer, but the problem still exists because of the clearcoat -- cleaners remove it

Jager2: Check this website for more information. http://www.autogeek.net

Jandree2: Beautiful car in white. I'll bet it is cooler too. ;)

Clay is amazing for removing oxidation, I clay the Mazda 6 once a year after winter, only wash it 1 time per two months though and wax every 4 months. Now the RX-8, well that car gets special treatment :D Wash and wax once per month.

Oh ya, and the NX tech wax is amazing, it's what I use on both cars.
