Hi forum,

This maybe a stupid question, but does any of you know if only the key is waterproof. I bodyboard and want to leave the beeper inside the car and take with me to the beach (salt water) the key while I ride. Can I wet the only the key with salt water? I heard there was a chip inside or something? My friend had a Ford Focus 2002 and he bodyboarded with the key and beeper so thats why I'm asking the question.

Thanks

it has a chip inside it. wether or not water would kill it is a different story. i know my focus key was sealed to the point where nothing could get in. but my mazda key looks like it would leak.

There's only one way to find out.

Hint: if it doesn't work after being submerged, it wasn't, and isn't, waterproof. :D

Thanks for the tip my friend...LOL maybe I can get a friend of mine to test it instead of me...LOL oh well your key just died...(shrug) .

I don't think the key has a salt water warranty...like my history of old cell phones LOL

TIA

do it.. if the dealership questions you.. tell them to eat a dick and you jumped into the ocean to save a drowning puppy

the keys are sealed pretty well, and they dont have a battery in them so as soon as it drys out it should work fine

Chipped keys are really expensive. Invest in some snack-sized ziplock bags. I've never found any other useful purpose for the stupid little things!

you could always get a regular non chip key, lock the regular key in the car in the glovebox, just use the other to lock/unlock it

i'm pretty sure there is a way to "train" new keys on this board.

on topic: my key has been in the pool and still works.

My roomate found quite a purpose for those stupid little bags(stoned)

getting a third key cost me 76 bucks and change. i needed to get it in order to have my alarm/remote start installed

DING DING DING! WINNER!!!!

Do this.

i looked at my key and i don't see how any water could get in it. but once again its expensive as hell to replace. go to walmart and spend 97 cents for a non-chipped key.

I have had no problems finding good uses for those little half zip lock bags (boom07) hence the name...............................
