We recently bought a sport with the sand cloth interior and after spilling some water on the seats noticed a stain. After a trip to the beach, a wet towel around one of the kids also left a strain. It cleaned up just fine, but we were a bit surprised that there must not be any type of protection on the seats. Has anyone tried putting scotch guard or something like it on sand seats?

I bought two cans of regular ole scotchguard last month, the day after we brought our new 2012 CX-9 home. We were going camping the next day, so was really nervous. 
I sprayed the seats and all seemed fine. Later in the week, a cup of water spilled, and it all beaded up on the surface. So, worked well. Don't know how long it will last though. I don't seem myself using a can every couple months like they suggest.
