Hey guys i just got the SNOWPERFORMANCE kit installed today, put on about 90 miles and love it, car seems to run much smoother and performance gain is noticable.

For a $439 price i say worth every penny.

This is something I haven't seen mentioned on this forum before and I'm totally in the dark here (eh, what new for me?) LOL

So, what is this kit, what does it do, where do you get it?

Vince.

Water/methanol injection kits do just that; they inject a mix of water and methanol into the charged air stream. This does a couple of things:

- Cools the intake temperature, increasing performance from the cooler charge
- Reduces the chance of detonation (methanol has a much higher octane rating than gasoline and also cools the cylinder walls)
- Vaporizing water also helps increase power output via expansion when the cylinders fire

Overall, that's pretty cool, but the biggest benefits come when you start turning up the boost. If you tune specifically for methanol, you can get pretty crazy numbers pretty safely.

AlbanianDude - how was the install? Did you get the kit that varies injector flow with increased rpms? More details and pics please!

Install was done buy a mechanic, i do some of my own stuff but there is no way i was gonna start messing with that, Its boost controlled, starts at 4Psi full blast at 9 psi and i love it, way smother runing i believe but maybe its just in my head, pictures will follow soon i am out of town for the next week but when i get back i will get some.
Methanol up here is easy to find i went to my budy's shop and got a 50 gallon barrell for free and mixing it with distilled water 50/50, i didnt wanna use the windshield washer fluid seing that there is plenty up here and its cheap, but the guys at snowperformance say windshield washer fluid works well too.

typically there are not large gains with meth alone, normally you need to do some kind of tuning to see the best results. A better intercooler would have a similar effect to the meth with your car. On a car running more boost or a larger turbo meth can be that extra advantage to allow you to run that little extra bit of power.

Well thats coming but for the mean time i wanted to do this kit as its not very expensive at all, and i think your wrong if you think it wont do much because it sure as hell is noticable, and i am happy with that, i think way worth the $439.

Ah, thanks for all the info! Sounds like a great upgrade.

Question: The website says the kit comes with a 2 quart reservoir.

So, how quickly does the methanol mix deplete? How often do you have to fill that reservoir?

Vince.
Depends on your foot lol, but normal everyday driving you should have to fill up every 2 weeks.
The mix you pur water and methanol and shake it up a little.

Any issue with injecting H2O into an engine? I'm from the old school, when gas was leaded...water in the gas tank was/is bad news. It seems to me, that mixing water with methanol and injecting into an engine would have similar consequences. I can only assume that technology has advanced to the point where that's no longer a concern?

Vince.

the water is a vapor when its injected, so no it wont cause any type of damage like hydro locking, it cools down internals and cleans at the same time..

It basically steam cleans your cumbustion chamber at teh same time. I have it on my protege and would consider putting it on our cx7 once it becomes mine and the wife has another car to drive. it is always safer to run meth with increasing power mods. If you use windshield washer fluid, try to find a winter mix, cause most summer mixes are only 4-10% meth, most winter mixes are 20-40% meth. I have scanned a couple magazine articles for other people on teh subject if anybody would like me to post them up or receive them in PMs. just holler. I researched meth inj for over a year before I bought a kit to make sure it was a route I wanted, seems risky to inject water in to an engine! I have the Labonte Motorsports progressive kit which actually is the same company that makes them for snow performance who just rebadges them. Devils own is another good brand and there are plenty more ranging from $300 to $1000.
