Warranty and Mods...?

Damn, that sucks...

Whats that shield that comes with the MS CAI...? Seems like it goes around the cone; whats the purpose for it?

The shield stops water from falling onto the filter from above I think. It isnt a heat shield really. The radiator hose is the only hot thing anywhere near there. In anycase as stated I don't think anyone has hydroed a MS3 yet.

I don't know a single dealer (in CT at least) who will cover damages if you hydrolock your engine with a MS CAI on it (or any CAI for that matter).

In reality it doesn't matter. Regardless of if there was a CAI on your car or not if they find water in your engine then they deny your claim.

A lawyer was brought into the situation and it did nothing. It became an insurance claim and not under dealership warranty.

I feel as though you have made up your mind on this despite my posting of the LAW and Mazdas policies. Tried to help ya.

I am just giving my personal experience on the matter. It happened to me last weekend with my car and even without a CAI on there they (the dealership) refused my claim because they found water in the engine. A talk with TWO lawyers got me no where as well so it was handed over to insurance.

Then the TWO lawyers were not up to speed on the law or they did not want your case. Regardless, glad insurance is helping out.

All the best.

Thanks.

Although I'm telling you there is nothing that can be done about it. Aftermarket parts void warranties and deny claims. lol.

Strange cause I was talking to a tech at my dealership about CAI's and he said if you hydrolock ur engine because of a cai it will void your warranty. UNLESS you have a Mazdaspeed CAI cause they have to honor parts with their name on it.

Thats what I was told about 3 weeks ago when I was inquiring about a CAI for my MS6.

It could vary dealer by dealer.

I wish that was the case here. In CT they will warranty the PART (ie; the CAI) if it malfunctions but not anything it may effect (ie; the engine).

I would tend to believe that Mazda would accept a claim with a Mazdaspeed CAI since they designed it for that particular car/application and stamped their name on it. They should have designed the CAI with inclement weather in mind.

Though if you drive your car (any car) through a flooded street, then your warranty is voided regardless of mods... Cars weren't designed for amphibious duties...

True that! Although flash floods are hard to avoid. >_<

Bingo. And that is what it says on all mazdaspeed products..as long as the dealer installs it.

I once had a 99 GSR (Integra) and the dealer installed a CAI and headers for me. About a month later my wife hydro-locked the car.(Rains big time here) I then went to the dealer and they tried to deny my warranty. (Car only had 9k miles) Anyways...I called my buddy who is a lawyer and he sent them (The Dealer) a nasty letter saying..."Why would you knowingly install a product that you realize could harm the car?" He also pointed out that it was negligent of them to do so.

About 2 days later the dealer called and towed my car in gave me a free loaner and fixed the motor for free.(band2) They did however refuse to re-install my CAI. (lol2)
