last week i noticed some of the red stitching was coming up on my shift boot. the car only has 3500 on it and i put this shifter on a few days after i got the car new. i took it in to a new mazda dealer (who doesn't sell mazdaspeed cars and recently just got on board with mazda as a whole) and they ordered the boot under warranty. i removed the boot, and noticed that the one cable connection to the shifter was rubbing constantly under the boot and wore away the stitches. it rubbed the inner pleat in a diagonal fashion and went right through the bottom stitches, so the stitching on the top side pulls itself out. whether this would happen w/ the stock shifter...not sure....
i called TWM about this and they don't have a boot yet for the ms3, but they will in several weeks. for now, i'm going to put some hardcore reinforced tape on the exact underside spot that was rubbing so hopefully this doesn't happen in the meantime to my new one from the warranty issue.
please note i paid attention when i played with the boot after the initial installation to make sure that it was not hitting anything underneath while it was bunched up. i guess it's impossible to totally avoid it during use.
