Warning! DON'T use Kartboy Hangers with Ion Exhaust

Hey kids,

During all the work that I am having done on my car this past weekend, I have heard from multiple reputable vendors that the kartboy urethane hangers are a bad idea with the aftermarket exhausts (I am sure this applies to more then ION).

Today suspicions were confirmed as I inspected the exhaust with the car in the air. The exhaust hangers are starting to seperate from the exhaust at the welds, just as I was told they would by folks this week with any aftermarket exhaust and urethane hangers. Your exhaust may bang around with the stock hangers, but at least it won't fall off like it has potential to with the kartboy hangers.

As soon as I get home, the stock rubber hangers are going back on and the exhaust is going to a shop to have those welds reinforced.

While we are at it. ION Exhaust owners would do well to wrap their s-pipe in exhaust wrap. It sits VERY Close to the AC compressor and this shortens the life of the compressor and reduces the efficiency of your AC. I wrapped my s-pipe today while it was off the car and am hoping for improved AC action and long compressor life.

my HKS certainly isnt coming apart. the only problem i had was the hangars pulled the exhaust tighter therefore being the HKS was at an angle started to melt my bumper. i promptly bought some metal hose clamps, slid the exhaust over, and installed a clamp to prevent it from sliding back, therefore fixing the problem.

I had Kart boy hanger with my DP and exhaust for 6 months and no problems here. The quality of the welds is the problem, not the hangers.

I did that when I first installed the new hangers, but I don't know what I am going or saying so don't liste to me

Yeah, I would give ION a shout. If their products are as good as they claim, they should be able to hook you up no problem and no charge of course.

yes, the welds at the exhaust are coming off and there are small holes where the weld meets the exhaust.

Both the guys at SPD Racing and Juan at Hi-Boost have mentioned that over time urethane hangers can damage the exhaust, no matter what kind. Perhaps some exhausts are better than others in this regard, that I can't say. I will be calling ION. I just wanted to give a warning to others.

Just got off the phone with ION.

His recommendation is to use stock hangers on the rear section and leave the kartboy on the front section as those should be fine.

The difference between the two is the type of steel used and the ultra light weight steel in the rear section can be damaged by the vibrations that the kartboy hangers transfer to the exhaust. However the steel used on the front section is heavier duty (heavier steel) and it should be okay.
