well, as most of you know, the head flange will bolt right up to the protege 2.0 liter engine, but the EGR pipe will not. i sent Ric, the owner of the company, an email asking if he would consider modifying his jig so that headers could be made to fit a protege. he said it sounds like a good idea, but would need a car to do the test fitting on. the company is in San Antonio, Texas. if any one would be interested in that area, check out the site and shoot that guy a message. maybe we can get some good full length headers built up for our cars. oh yeah, they are only $290 USD.

I'm down at this point. Maybe we can work something out and I'll help him to distribute the product. I'll call him either today, monday, or when we get back from the SEMA show.

Nice work. Tired of waiting for HP.

WShade,

Time to be a guine (sp) pig!:D Naw, I would hate to see you diss-assymble that turbo. Any takers in the San Antonio area?

Oh, if I only lived near San Antonio I'd let my car be a test subject. Sadly I live in Washington so no dice. Hopefully someone else will be able to though as the price is right and it looks good.

seriously!! if i lived near these guys i'd be all over that... maybe even get a free set out of em for letting em develop and test on your car.... oh well..

i sent ric an email to ask about possibly trying this out on my car. i will let you know what he says when i hear back from him...:D

Yeah, there are a few companies that make a header for the MX-6 that bolt right up to ours. Bosal being one of them. I forget who, but someone on this board has it (and has had it for a long time) and said that the quality was poor. Lots of exhaust leaks, etc.. Same egr problem too. These look good and I'm very interested to see what happens newt. Keep us posted!

hey the head flange is the top piece of the headers right.... if so.. how much is he selling that?

also it comes with a spot for all the sensors?

I'd be intrested but I'm in cali so no go. But yea would the headers be the same for a p5 as an mp3 since the exhausts are different? Also, does borla make an exhaust for our cars

the only thing differnt between the pro5 and mp3 exhaust is the rear section, past the back axles.

i toio have sent an e-mail to Ric. I'm in Austin about 1.5hours away. Hopefully i will hear back soon.

It fits with modification

Just to let you guys know, it does fit with modification. I actually picked up this header from Ric a few months ago.

I've got the headers, custom cams, airfilter, high flow cat and a MP3 muffler modified to fit my P5.

Oh yeah... Ric(thumb)

so what kind of modifications did you have to make in order for the header to work? be specific please because i am really considering purchasing this header and want to know all the details so i know what i am getting into.
thanks in advance,
erick

Well... It's actually not that bad. The original EGR outlet on the header points down at a 45 degree angle so it had to be cut off, hole filled and a new outlet relocated to the proper position.

I'm not sure if it could be modified to mate with the stock 2nd cat. I didn't bother cause I did the high flow cat at the same time as the header install. I'll take a few measurements the next time I've got the car on the hoist.

I actually had a 2 1/4 custom cat back with a straight through muffler, but I lost way too much down low so I just put the stock mid section exhaust pipe back on. The car is a lot more fun to drive around town now! I still haven't had time to figure out my CEL yet tho'. It's on because of the second O2.
