Volkswagen Golf V R32 US Pricing

I'll stick to my five speed :) (but would gladly drive a six speed). Shifting is just too much fun, there is a certain sense of pride and accomplishment in learning how to rev match, heal/toe and fly through the gears.

Although this(along w/ the rest of the Golfs) look nice and the DSG is insane...I'd rather hold that 32 grand and get the Evo X(evil).

With the launch control and DSG its more like 5.9 to 60. The r32's in europe are getting 13.9 - 14.1 quarter miles stock.

t's actually supposed to be really good. Will have some type of pre-programmed launch capabilities like a two-step that comes stock(or so I heard).

Still not interested...

Its not about being faster. Sure, I would want something like that on a full out race car. Its about being invovled in the driving experience.

I don't mind if they offer DSG as an option- I just really annoyed when it is the only option on cars that used to be manual only.

EVO X Trans = DSG OWND!!!

But seriously, there is something special about a great 5 or 6 spd trans.

DSG is the future though wether we like it or not.

Well I will put my 3 cents into this here about the DSG tranny and the like.

I have driven two cars with similar types of transmission. A E46 M3 with SMG, a 645ci with SMG, and a 997 carrera 4 with manual/auto (forget what they call the tranny) and it is the best truth be told. I enjoyed the M3 SMG the most because it shifts fast and makes the car feel nice. You still get the performance as a manual car but with quicker shift times and smoother shifts. It is a preference in the end. My dad has driven manual his whole life and loves driving stick. But he drives into NYC all the time and in traffic its annoying, hes been driving to NYC for so many years. And he got the 645 with the smg to test it out. Then he upgraded to the carerra 4 and its fun as well. it is different and takes some time getting used to but statistically it is faster/easier. Just my two cents.

I dont think it takes away from the driving expierence it just makes it a different one. It is one less thing to worry about at times and can make driving easier in the end. But again, this is just me.

I read that they a majority of them coming in will be with the DSG. Upwards of 70%. Just have to face it, that 3rd pedal will be gone soon. Starting with 08 models, VW's will be with DSG/auto only. Only way to get a manual is special order it.

the only way all vehicles will phase out manual trans. is if society lets it.

if the demand is strong they will build it, otherwise why bother?

the problem is america is one of those countrys were a HUGE majority of the population drives automatic, where the exact opposite is true overseas...

I know how to drive a manual but I don't mind DSG at all. Sometimes Manuals can be a PITA! But when the moment is right they are wonderful.

But even overseas, paddle shifters and DSG are gaining MASSIVE popularity and it won't be long before its the standard. Once the tech becomes reliable and affordable, its going to become the standard. We'll just have to wait and see.

this is exaclty why i bought the MS3. This car is way overpriced! i like it, looks good, must drive great too, but way toooo overpriced because of all the "gadgets" (DSG, all wheel drive). they are only bringing 5000. and im not sure how hard core enthusiast see this new DSG, but i dont like. no clutch, no good!

Agreed. I sure hope that number is conservative, because the Mazdaspeed3 will still eat it alive for much less money. It doesn't seem much faster than the GTI. That's too bad. This was a car I was considering as a second toy car after I pay off my 3, but I'd rather have a RWD car, anyway.

"technological marble" or technological marvel? Hehe

Yea...I agree about the manual. I simply love rowing my 6 gears.

That too! *^_^* (doesn't "marble" sound better though? keke)

The manual transmission just grows on you with time, yeah in traffic it can be a pain, but like I said Rev matching is VERY satisfying, driving manual is like an art.
