hey, im from CT and im going to maui in May...staying at the grand weilea

just wondering what sort of stuff is good to do down there, i know my father is trying to book some stuff now like we've already got surfing lessons booked and we can do this biking thing on mt. haliakala(sp?)...just wondering if any of you had any input on what sort of stuff i should definately try and do while im there

thanks
chris

Rent a jeep and drive around the island...you will be set.

Just stay away from the banana bread + alcohol...I had a bad experience once. :D

grand weilea? dawmmm. REALLY nice place. maui is more country life vs oahu is more city life. in maui, all u can really do is relax and go site seeing. just make sure you hit up some beaches. im not too familiar with maui, but it is really nice. have fun!!!

whoa i dunno about that biking mt. haleakala...going up anyways. (uhm) i know it's really cold (for hawaii weather) and the air gets thin...not real good biking conditions...but going down haleakala is another story. if you could somehow put the bike on the back of a truck or something and tow it up there, then your set. (yes) just watch out for the blind turns and cars (eek2)

it's part of a tour. they give u these bright butt yellow jackets. u meet at the bottom of haleakala. a tour van takes the tour group and bikes up along w/ the tour 2 guides (1 lead and 1 at the end of the group...bikes and jackets r provided by the tour group). also, the van follows the group down the hill and picks up any 1 who cannot handle or emergancy repairs 4 the bikes. u watch the sun rise then bike down the hill. they take frequent breaks going down because if u loose your brakes from over use...u gonna go flying off the cliffs hehe...they actually do stress safety. they make u warm up in the parking lot b4 heading down. along the way there's also a ranch u can go 2 ride horses there but it's freaking cold. that is not part of the tour but could do that 2...that's mid-way. it's best if u r the 1st group 2 head out because the road gets busy after the sun rises. i'm not sure if the go rain or shine...or snow heh...i haven't heard of any freak accidents of that sort up there in a while so i think he's all good as long as he listens 2 the instructions instrucions and use caution.

go check out the waves at Jaws. IDK if they're still going off, and if not, just go check out the ladies.

whoa smokes! that actually sounds like fun. jamming down haleakala on a bike. i could see the whole stopping frequently to check the breaks. i would hate for the brakes to go while going down. i'm kinda iffy on those bright yellow jackets though, but i guess it's all for the safety precautions. (glare) hope you have fun dude if you decide to do that. i went up there once and froze my ass off.

haa haa. funny u said u froze your ass off. well, someone neglected 2 turn the defroster ON b4 we headed down the hill. big no, no. our windows fogged in 10 seconds as we were going down the hill. we were lucky because the driver bolted right, off the road, and into the lava rocks. that was the 1st day of our trip...made the rest of the trip suck; i swear, our rental was screwed up LOL...luckily, the rental co. had no clue...damage was all on the bottom...no oil leaks or anything of that nature heh. and when u c that sign that says walk up the stairs slowly...don't b like me and run hahaha. my lungs almost shut down hehe...what a trip. as 4 the bikes, they're a pain in the butt when u have 2 pass them. gotta jump off the rocks out hana side ohelo gultch. hit up all the eateries and maui winery. try the pineapple wine. def gotta get guri guri and cocoa puffs. anyways...it's gonna b fun but expensive...but it's all good. don't 4get 2 whale watch...i think they'll still b around that time.

alright thanks it sounds awesome i can't wait to go...and yeh the biking thing they bring u up and you coast down...and i was thinkin of bringing my clubs or at least renting some out there and playing at least one round of golf

I think Wailea has 3 different courses. All of them are beautiful. Maybe you can get a better rate since you're gonna be staying at their resort.

yeh i was lookin at it online...those courses look amazing

and they do have lower rates if your staying at the resort
