{Video} BLAST OFF~

o wow.... wicked
what i actually find a little strange is that the speedo is going faster than the rev meter

Sorry, but assuming a tire size of 215/45/17, at 5500 rpm with a 0.80 fifth gear and a final drive of 4.10, the car's top speed would be 122.46.

In order to acheive the observed ~160 mph on the speedo, the car would have needed 29 inch tall tires and 6000 rpm.

This is not taking into account wind resistance and coefficient of drag.

My old car had 255/45/17s, 2.29:1 Posi rear, a 0.80 fifth and 408 hp and 415 ftlbs torque. And a CE of 0.34 at at PIR on the front straight with no Festival Curves (@1/2 mile) I could hit roughly 167 mph without wind. Simple calculations show that it coulld have (theorhetically) done almost 256mph, but even with 400+ ft lbs, I couldn't pull it past 4500 rpm in fifth because of drag. And 4500rpm was right in the torque band.

This video is simply not possible.

Thanks for the buzz kill, and all the math.

No... that is very possible. I have had mine up at 151 verified on GPS... and i was planning on building her for a 175mph top speed. All that was needed was the GTX 3rd and 4th and a Ford Festiva 5th gear and more HP... the theoretical top speed on stock tires was like 186.7 or something like that....

hmmm
- 215/45/17 with 5th@0.755 and 4.105@final drive = 129mph@5500 / 142@6000 / 153@6500

why do you assume 215/45-17 tires? what if, for example, they used 205/40-16 tires? the speedo would read roughly 9% higher than the car is actually going

so a 145 mph actual speed would translate to 158 on the speedo

youre right, i shouldnt assume his tire size, but at the same time, i'm just saying that it IS possible.

looks, to me, like he might have something in the speedo cable that is doubling the actual speed? Kind of like what they do in the older show cars that shows only half the speed so they keep the miles down.

It would kinda make sence...

Shifting arround 125mph if cut in half would be arround 62mph (the 2-3 shift)

Its not only the speed but the acceleration rate at that speed that raises one eye brow.

Could very well be legit, but on a car thats decked the **** out.

Yes the math would add up, but...as far as I could tell he was not at 6500 rpm, but shifting rather lazily at around 5000-5500.

I assumed tire size based on one of the most common "tuner" tie sizes. I also did the math with 18" wheels and with 15" wheels.

The key word here is theoretical top speed. Once you get to a certain point, you need to basically double your hp for five mph more. Pulling enough torque from an FSDET to turn a 0.69 gear on a 2600lb car is going to be extremely difficult. I have a preogram here somewhere that calculates needed whp to obtain a certain top speed including drag and vehicle weight. I'll see if I can dig it out, I haven't used it since Bonneville 6 years ago.

Does anyone have the coefficient of drag specs on the MSP? I would go measure, but I just got home from work and realized that I left my keys there (I rode the train home because the MSP is still down and my wife had the truck, and slept through her alarm) so it took me about an hour to get into my house and frankly, I'm gonna slam a couple of Guiness and take a shower and go to bed.

Evfen if the car was modded right out (which it'd have to be to go that fast that quick) Boosting in 5th is death, espesially for that long...

i will try my best to find out what mods are the car , or at least what might to be put on the car. I have seen discussions about the ford tierras beating a slightly modded c32 amg at high speed. (sth like from a 140km/h roll). and yes, it was the c32 owners who were talking about it.

As far as I know, theres 1 guy here that have that same car. But the one on that video is forged.

And about the gearing...you can do that with the GTX gearset in 3rd and 4th and then use a 626 5th gear.

With slicks you can do over 145mph in the 1/4mile in 4th gear!!

remember that slicks grow in diameter the faster they turn effectively numerically decreasing your final drive.
