The chain reaction accident involved three cars and two semi trucks.

TUKWILA, Wash. - Police are searching for two men who raced along Interstate 5 at up to 100 mph from Tukwila to Tacoma, causing a chain reaction accident involving three cars and two semi trucks.

Police say the men in a black truck were racing with a red sports car. Andy Marcelynos saw the cars coming in his rear view mirror.

"I was doing probably 65, and they came up on me like I was standing still," said Marcelynos.

The pickup crashed into an SUV, causing a chain reaction accident involving three cars and two semi trucks.

"Here we've got two people racing. The roadways are wet. They're traveling in excess of 100 miles an hour for over 17 miles," said Trooper Johnny Alexander.

The damaged cars were towed to Bill's Towing in Tacoma. A Ford F-150 Harley Davidson pickup was one of the vehicles racing on I-5. Found inside was a case of beer and some empties.

Also in the lot are two smashed Volkswagons and a white Ford Expedition belonging to the innocent victims.

In all, eight cars were hit, but the street racers got away. The red sports car escaped damage and sped away. The occupants of the speeding truck took off on foot.

"Hopefully we'll catch the pickup and the driver in the 350Z," said Alexander.

Two victims were taken to Tacoma General Hospital with minor injuries.

The drivers could face serious charges of reckless driving, felony hit and run and vehicular assault.

This is very disheartening, disappointing, and stupid. Seriously, what is the point of 1) racing, 2) at night, 3) through traffic, 4) while intoxicated WITH alcohol in the vehicle, and 5) in the rain? And then leaving your car at the scene of the crime? Very stupid.

This will cause a severe outcry on the sport compact scene. And for what? It's just insane! What about the people who just love cars? That drive around, obeying the law, using their turn signals and everything? I sure hope they find the idiots that did this, and severely punish them. Something along the lines of revoking their license for 5 years, if not permanently. Don't let them own a car, or ever drive one again. I swear, now there will be severe legislation passed against us sport compact owners. It'll turn into California...what with stricter emissions, then they'll be anal about muffler noise, and body kits, and stereos, and graphics, and spoilers....it will not stop.

17 miles, speeds of around 100mph. That's about what, 12 to 15 minutes of driving? What the hell? You have your 15 minutes of fun. You ruin the hobby of thousands and thousands in the state. Heaven forbid that your name and picture shows up on the news....because the fury will fly your way. Seriously, TAKE IT TO THE TRACK. But now, it's probably too late.

My thoughts and heart go out to those hurt in the accident. May you all have a speedy recovery, and get justice exacted on these stupid racers. But do not use that label on them, and apply your vengeance on us enthusiasts. The stupid actions of a select idiotic few should not reflect on a group of people with a totally different desire from their hobby.

Another incident that could have been avoided.

I know that I come across as a righteous bastard, I apologize. But this is just blatantly stupid. :( I just had to get my feelings out in some sort of constructive manner. And share what happened here, in hopes of maybe...just maybe.....being able to get the message out and prevent this from happening somehow, you know? Telling friends, changing the way you drive, just spreading the news. It's just a miracle that the people involved were not fatally injured (at least, that's what has been reported on TV).

dont be sorry to us -- we now you just venting and thats why we share this forum -- that is sad cause it makes all of us --(as you said who love cars and to drive)-- guilty before innocents -- im glad noone was killed -- that would be even worse :(

Hopefully those injured have a speedy and full recovery. I hate idiots. (argh)

I'm originally from Hawaii and a few years ago, there were several incidents of teenagers getting into severe accidents when racing (splitting cars in two and drivers and passengers dying...). Ever since then, the number of traffic cops seemed to have tripled. Even my mom, who basically always drives under the speed limit, recently got a speeding ticket.
